Or whatever you want to call it.
or as a alternative a very simple drawing that can be recognized right away as a symbol for a dog. The simpler the better.

Had a few minutes to screw around, so…
It could use some work. I cheated a little using sup and sub code

A take on what Penfeather did. Thought this looked a little like a wiener dog. (not a sandwich)

Let’s give that another try.

There are tons of multi-line dogs, but this is the only single-line dog I could find.

By the way, you are looking for an ASCII rendition, not an ANSI rendition. Maybe that will help you find something.
The ANSI dog and the EBCDIC cat
row by row in the table sat . . .
I’ve been looking at this and looking at this, and I can’t figure it out. Can someone help me? Is the left side the tail and the right the head? And what are all the curly braces? My brain just can’t resolve this into a dog.
I had a lot of trouble too, it looked more like some armored reptile armadillo thing . I think I got it however, it is a top down view of a large shaggy dog. The > is either the start o the tail that goes out of frame, or a waging tail, the D the head.

Pretty good (along with the i version) but lacking the intuitive recognition that I believe the ASCII cat has (thanks for that correction Alley Dweller - btw that one you posted looks like a bear). At least to me you have to know there is a dog then find it, the reaction to the cat is people find it not knowing if anything is there.
This one come close to that type of recondition (at least to me)

Will check out some of the multi line ones, now that I know the correct term.
But ˁ˚ᴥ˚ˀ isn’t an ASCII rendition, since none of those characters exists in ASCII.
I thought this was the ASCII fish that the ASCII cat ate.
