“Resole your flouncing shoes madame?”
Essex isn’t in London.
Now, now, don’t be cynical. There could be a reasonable explanation for all this.
Or, you know, from Britain…where I live.
This is seriously the greatest post I’ve seen in my three years here.
Pro-tip for trolling: Americans don’t usually use the word “forecourt”. Or “boot” or “bonnet”.
ETA: to clarify, we don’t use “boot” or “bonnet” to refer to parts of cars.
Close enough compared to Scotland.
I think that about wraps that up. And Bob Ducca, even if this poster had been for real it wasn’t worth the snark and the arguing I put into it yesterday. I doubt this is umkay, but arguing that one liar might not be the same as another liar isn’t worth the effort.
As an Englishman, I can tell you that Essex /ˈɛsɨks/ is a ceremonial and administrative county in England, and a home county north-east of London. It borders the counties of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire to the north, Hertfordshire to the west, Kent across the estuary of the River Thames to the south and London to the southwest. Essex County Council is the principal local authority for much of the county, sharing functions with 12 district and borough councils. The county town is Chelmsford. Essex is a region at the second level for European statistical purposes.
I said *by *London. Which it is. That is proper English. So what’s the explanation?
The only part of the story I’ll buy is that this guy is 18 years old.
I doubt it’s the original umkay as well… Just another person wearing the mask. Like the end of Dark Knight Rises.
Gary is the sad bastard?
I would have believed you if you’d typed it in an English accent.
You’d have to be a pretty big loser to waste your time making a telephone call like that.
Well, I’m convinced.
Please direct me to the post confirming that this is umkay’s sock and not merely someone else who’s hit on a similar methodology.
You mean in English English. It’s a language, not an accent.

You’d better update your location before people start asking you to hold up a SDMB sign while singing “Do You Know the Way to San Jose?”
You don’t have to phone them-there’s this new thing they just came out with called “e-mail”. BTW, finding that image and/or contacting the dealer wasn’t even necessary-the photo you gave us of “your” car still showed the paper “foot” protector that most dealerships use on the driver’s side floor.
It only took a minute…ah, shit.
