Lord of the Rings Mafia

Is this a soft claim?

Quoth cucuy:

No, he was a vanilla in the last game.

No, that’s a hard claim: He’s claiming to be vanilla.

Before I start getting fired up over this, can someone please explain to me why this isn’t scummy? Better yet, why this could be of help to town?

OK.

I’m not convinced.

You lead the charge, I’ll be right behind you!

You can bring up the rear.

But seriously guys, can you cut it down the rest of the game? I forced myself to read the last two pages when I really could have skimmed, because there MIGHT have been something useful there.

It’s not much of a claim. If you’re willing to to slog back into the handshaking nonsense, you can see me as much as claim to be vanilla.
I… don’t even know what to say about the past two pages.
I’ve been musing about Ed’s ‘I know something I can’t tell’ and;

I am not Glorfindel.

I am Treebeard.

Huh, you’d think we would have recognized you. You looked just like a 30-foot-tall hobbit, sitting in the back, there.

Peeker, is the quoted statement true? Have you received information from the mod that you were explicitly told not to share?

The beauty of a WoW is that, in general, it’s spoilered you know, add the [ spoiler] tag at the start and then close it at the end like this [ /spoiler] and so the author is basically saying “here’s a summary of X’s posts, if you want to read, click Show or, if you want to ignore the detail but get straight to the meat, here’s a summary of what I’ve found”.

200 posts overnight? You guyts are frakkin’ insane! At this point I feel like advocating a peeker lynch to preserve my time/sanity!

OK I haven’t read the 200 posts yet, I will do so now, but in the meantime I will resume my last vote from yesterday

vote Chupacabra

Some very shady voting went down yesterday, imo to try and save SP.

Any reason why you haven’t quoted your role PM?

Yes.

I can quote it if you want me to, I guess. It won’t be terribly useful.

Good Idea, I will wait in the wings as well.

/snip
OK, this looks like evidence that scum are in possession of a VT role PM. For what possible reason would a VT state that they believe a portion of their role PM “should” be identical for all VTs and possibly all Town? Now, if he’d seen other VT role PMs or even other non-VT role PMs, he’d have a pretty good reason to believe this but of course, he couldn’t back it up with evidence. In fact, the evidence already present at the time of this post contradicted the statement - as there was some discrepancy on the number of times Sauron and SAHM appeared in the paragraph.

For the voting, backtracking on relationship between Special Ed and Suburban, and a possible slip

Vote Chipacabra

i don’t skim. i merely don’t read the recaps that are made by folks. i will do that on my own without the inherant bias that typically accompanies these summaries. i really don’t need someone else to think for me.

and no i can’t remember every single post verbatim but i do have a pretty good memory of what the general gist folks are saying. if needed i either do a search or i ask for clarification.

i already said why i wanted to be subbed out. i got some poor news and then read ed’s snarky post which struck a nerve. it really irked me and i was kind of like fuck it. i have since apologized to everyone and ed specifically. i sometimes will take things personally in this game and fail to forget that fundamentally this is a game. and to some extent the most valuable information is acquired through getting under someone’s skin.

what i was merely observing was that it follows canon. additionally, if i were to follow canon i would think that boromir would most likely be the not town. but the addiditional kind of half ass information that ed has shared makes me a little more convinced. now could i be wrong? youbetcha, but at this point i feel an ed lynch makes no sense. now if we get to three handed with a confirmed townie ed and myself you can pretty much bet i am voting ed regardless of the canonical implications of fratracide.

<snipped>

the actual pm stated I would appreciate it if you don’t mention it “in-game”, so to speak. It’s my bad.

now is mentioning something that i am not supposed to mention while not actually mentioning that which i am not supposed to mention the right play or not. i have no clue. i just find in congruent that ed kind of got the same type of message. and the fact that he has claimed faramir and i know that i am boromir makes me wonder about the “mason” mechanic that i talked about previously.

back to the game.

i find astral’s absence very concerning. in the past, when i have been scum, and either i or a mate started getting heat the typical strategy was along the lines of just shut up and hopefully they will go elsewhere. and typically it was up to your buds to get the focus someplace else while the suspect goes dormant. that’s where i am going fishing this morning.

burb was kind of a runaway “winner” for purposes of this game. i mean the latest vote change was chronos moving from ed to burb so that certainly doesn’t feel like a saving vote. and i moved from chippy to you kind of late. but i don’t see how that helped burb.

How likely is it that Mahaloth would’ve a) not explicitly told a mason he (or she) was a mason and b) given a vanilla townie a role of Treebeard. I mean, it’s Treebeard - the weirdest being in LOTR.

Treebeard? Really? Seems like a total cover for scum.

I have read the snipped part, and I follow the general argument that Chronos puts forth. However, I do not think I can anything of value to it. Not that any statement with value will maintain that value, given the speed of posts in this game.

However, taking things at face value, and not reading too much into it might perhaps bridge the two distinct tracks this game is currently running.

But, I digress.

I just want to take two seconds comment on the second part.

OOG

At first, I want to think that this is a backhanded compliment. I thought I knew everything there was to know about Peeker back when I ““divorced”” him from my play style some games back. [What game was that again? You would think that the amount of energy I put into being livid at Peeker back then, would have stuck with me longer than this.]

I find Peeker has entered “my space” in this game. But he can have it. I seriously feel like, after this game, I will be in a new space with my Mafia play. Speaking for myself, I have come to a new understanding of Night 0 and having a definite and consistent day and night length cycle.

I have tons of questions for this game, none of which are appropriate while the game is on.

Suffice to say, I feel this game is sideways, eight ways to Sunday. Perhaps in having Peeker reflecting my original play style, I can appreciate the distraction it was. Perhaps being conscripted into a canon I thought I would tread water or perhaps dog paddle into, and admiting that I am gloriously lost, I can respect quality over quantity. Perhaps actually having other things to do with my time, I can respect a game that is more bite size, more sprint, than a buffet marathon.

On the player level, and not on the character / role level, I feel as if I have already won this time.

Making a general “I’m never going back to my old life” comment if fickle, cliche and trite. Most of the time, it doesn’t stick. It is perhaps a statement made in more quicksand than making a quality post in this game. That being said, I am certain this game is a turning point for me. It might be the final “thing” I needed to change, or it might be all of the things repackaged and handed to me at a time I am ready to receive them.

I look forward to what I can do in the next Mafia game*. I don’t know if the current state of this game is causing the next game to pull me through this one, or if the entire, more than the sum of its parts, experience of this game is pushing me into the next game.

  • This is a loaded statement, to be sure. One would expect the content here to be the parting words from a player eulogizing his death. I just feel… not sure the words. I feel a need to do this, now. (Use of the word “strongly” is a bit awkward for me here.) I just feel this game will help in ways I don’t understand yet, when it comes to the next game.

All in all, not bad for someone who was razor-thin on giving up the game entire.
So Chonos, thanks for the compliment. Even if you didn’t mean it to be one.

/OOG

The shady voting was done earlier in the Day when **ed **and **Suburban **were much closer in vote totals. **Chipacabra **voted for **ed **at the time. So far there hasn’t been much else as scummy as that vote. So I’ll

vote Chipacabra.

If he turns up Scum like I think he will, then we’ll have more evidence that Scum had access to the Vanilla PM in Day 1.
