Every year NPR would read a poem by their Backford Black “former large-animal veterinarian” that began with “Lord & Taylor” and go through hundreds of store names until it ended “What have we done to Christmas?”
Anyone have the text?

I can’t find the poem, but I think the guy you’re looking for is Baxter Black …
Thing is, it’s not Baxter Black. But it’s been so long since I’ve been able to listen to Morning Edition that I can’t remember the name of the commentator.
Google “what have we done to christmas”, eighth link down: An Ode to Christmas 2000 by Chuck Kraemer. That it?
Yes, that is it.
Please pardon my late reply to your helpful post. No excuse.
Yup, Chuck Kraemer is a Boston TV reporter and commentator. He first did this at least 20 years ago on TV, and modifies it, if not every year, but every few years to cover the changing lingo and times.
