(Los Angeles) Public School Teachers & Administrators: "Request", "Reunion" gates?

This is directed to teachers or other employees of the L.A. Unified School District, but may be applicable elsewhere. Over the past few years I’ve noticed that schools have a couple of gates in the chain link fence, one marked “Request Gate” and the other marked “Reunion Gate”. So far I’ve only noticed it on some elementary and middle schools, but it might be on high schools too.

So, what’s up with that? What is a Request Gate? What’s a Reunion Gate?

According to my teacher gf, she says that the gates are marked as such for emergencies.

If there is one, a parent goes to the Request Gate asks to pick up his/her child and then that child is picked up at the Reunion Gate.
