Lost a long post! #$*(@#$)(*)!@#$%^

A three page post lost to the connection limit. Rassin frassin sassafrass. It especially irks me because this problem is relatively easy to fix: Have the CGI script acknowlege the post before attempting to update the database. If the database is overloaded, put in a delay and try it again! Same with the forum list and forum contents loading code. Presumably you’re running a CGI which queries the database and returns the result. Don’t issue an error and choke, just delay and retry.

I will fix this myself for free. I’m a professional computer programmer with 23 years’ experience. You can look at my resume. I will sign whatever non-disclosure or employment agreement you want (pay me a dollar if you have to). Email me at home at lhamelin@iname.com or at work at lrh@intersw.com.

This is the year 2000 for cripes sake! I wrote a more reliable BBS twenty years ago when I was in high school! And it was uphill both ways!

That happened to me once.

Once

Now I copy everything into my paste buffer with two clicks of the mouse before I send it. Just a habbit I got into- it can happen almost any time if the receiving server resets your connection.

SingleDad, I hope the board defect is remedied, by you or someone else. For a variety of reasons I’ve gotten in the habit of composing anything more than a two or three sentence response in Notepad, and pasting it in the reply box when ready.

The first few times this happened, it took me back to the days when I had a TI-99/4A with a ‘QUIT’ key.
