Why aren’t there numbers on the posts?
After the first page of posts I find it difficult
to find even my threads.
There seem to be no specific subject threads.

Numbers wouldn’t be necessary. Within each thread, the posts appear in the order they were posted; and a total post numbering scheme would be useless.
If you want to keep your eyes on a specific thread, subscribe to it or check the email notification box when you reply to a post. In fact, you can hardly do without that, given the number of threads started all the time…
No specific subject threads? I think that dopers do know how to stick to a point - and if they don’t, at least they mark their posts as thread hijacks.
And remember that each one of the different boards is for a certain range of topics. This here is General Questions, meant for questions to which there is a factual, non-opinion answer. If you want to discuss politics, religion or something like that, go to Great Debates; movies, literature, music, theater and the like go to Café Society. This subject should have gone to About This Message Board.
Actually I think the SDMB is excellently organized - it’s hard to arrange a forum as much frequented as this one that effectively.
Sorry, I will endeavor to post more often.
If you want to find all your posts, just click on the Search button under your post.
The posts DO have numbers. Hover your mouse over the edit, quote, or report bost buttons and look at the URL in your status bar.
Just hang in there, Rhino. The SDMB is a huge place. If you’re talking about a lack of specific forums for, say, computer stuff – we’ve had discissions about that. The last “specialist” forum set up was Cafe Society. There isn’t a real need, at the moment, to start up another specialist area.
Do some lurking, watch who posts what where – I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it, and do okay.
If you have questions about the board at all, technical stuff etc. – it’s best to start a thread up in ATMB, as has been said.
Since this is a question about this message board, I’ll move this thread to ATMB.

I think that the OP (that’s “Original Poster”, or the person who starts a new thread) is used to a different message board format, and that’s what’s confusing him. On some message boards, the main page has a link to every individual post, with replies indented under the first post of a thread. So you’ll see something like

Thanks for the help (posted by newbie)
Here’s another way to do it (posted by Seasoned Veteran)
for each thread. But here, when you look at the forum listing, you only see the topic of the first post of each thread, and threads right next to each other don’t have anything to do with each other. So to a person used to that other format, it might look like we have just one big thread that never stays on topic.
Thanks guys, I guess I have been inpatient and
and confused to boot.
Chronos nice to see someone from Montana.
