Lost our dog this morning.

Lydia, our 16 year old Staff/Pitbull mix get critically ill in the middle of the night and after an ultrasound was done we decided the only humane thing to do would be to let her go.

She was the most fucking awesome dog I’ve ever owned and we will miss her forever. Right now I just want to lay down and sleep forever.

That sucks. You have my sympathies.

When the time comes that I have to put my dog down (hopefully many years away) I’m gonna have to have someone drive me to the vet’s, because I’ll be crying like a baby…

:frowning: My condolences. After getting our first dog (also a pit mix of some sort) I dread the day this will come. Just reading your post is making my eyes well up. At least Lydia led a very long and full life in a happy place, and she gave the same in return.

I’m sorry to hear that, Laggard, I just had a puppy pass, and I dread the day that my Slater will find his clearing at the end of the path. Try to look on the bright side, though. 16 years is a long time for a dog to live, and it sounds like you enjoyed her company a lot. It takes a lot of selflessness to care more about the dog’s pain and suffering than your own enjoyment of her company. Good for you for doing the right thing.

I’m so sorry, Laggard. Losing a beloved pet is one of the hardest things. Glad you had all those good years with her, and that you were wise enough to do the loving thing at the end.

I’m sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss, Laggard. I’m glad Lydia had your love and compassion for all those years. Remember that she had a good life, when you find yourself missing her too much.

I’m so very sorry.

Laggard, you were her most fucking awesome human and you did the hardest thing just right. I wish something we could say would help your pain.

It’s been a tough two years. Last summer I had open heart surgery and this summer I was diagnosed as type ii diabetic. Now this. The holidays are canceled.

I thank you all for your kind words. I miss her so.

I’m sorry to hear that, Laggard. You did right by Lydia; it’s probably a small comfort if any at all, but as hard as it was, you did the right thing.

Sorry about your pup.

I’m so sorry, Laggard. I know how hard it is. 16 years! What an amazing life she had. You obviously took very good care of her (and she of you, I’m sure).

I’m so sorry for your loss of a family member :frowning:

I’m so, so sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear the news, Laggard. It sounds like she was a wonderful dog, who must’ve had a wonderful life.

I’m very sorry for your loss, Laggard. :frowning:

Oh man, sorry to hear.

We have a pit bull and an Amstaff/hound mix (best guess) and we adore them. I have no doubt Lydia was indeed awesome. Our thoughts are with your family.

We set ourselves up for sorrow when we have a beloved pet, as their lives are so much shorter than ours.

I’m sorry for your loss Laggard. I’ll give my Nathan and Atilla extra hugs in your dog’s honor. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could have a Doper pet heaven, and have all our dogs and cats get to know each other?

My sympathies, Laggard. I know just how you feel. Take the time to grieve in your own way, and know that one day the pain will fade, to be replaced by memories of all the good times you spent with your doggie.
