LoTR: EE DVD Problems?

I’m not sure if this is the best forum for this question, but since it has to do with a specific DVD, I figured it was the best place. This question has been driving me nuts. Has anyone else been having problems with a pre-ordered copy of the LotR:EE DVD? I just picked up my copy yesterday, and tried it out on our TV’s DVD player. It worked fine. Tried it on my computer’s DVD player. Nothing. I rebooted and tried again. Still nothing. I downloaded and installed the latest version of the Interactual player, despite the fact it said mine was up-to-date, just to be sure. Still nothing. I tried to update my firmware, and it still won’t work-it doesn’t seem to pick up on the new firmware. However, when I tried it out on the other computer’s DVD player, it worked just fine. Does anyone know if the preordered copies of the DVD are defective with certain types of DVD-ROMs, or has mine just gone haywire? I have an LG DVD-ROM DRD8160B with firmware revision 1.01, if that helps.

Sometimes bugs and incompatabilities can be very make and model specific. I seem to remember a web site that detailed a number of player specific DVD incompatibilities but I can’t seem to find it anymore.

Anyway, I’ve experienced a far more minor bug using my own LG DVD-ROM to play the LotR:EE. In the scenes where Aragorn and Arwen are speaking Elvish, English subtitles run along the bottom of the screen, as expected, but French subtitles also run along the top, as well. Try as I might, I can’t find a way to turn them off. Of course this is only mildly irritating compared to your own problem.

Does your computer recognize that there’s a disc in the DVD drive? Can you browse the file structure using Windows Explorer?

It doesn’t recognize the disc-all I get in Windows Explorer is ‘Cd (D:)’.

Might help.

Thanks for the links, N9-now if only I can get a firmware upgrade that goes with my version, I’ll be set. At least now I know it isn’t just my drive.

Well, I may as well post this here.

Does anyone know of a way to access the exclusive web links while using a Mac? I’m able to play the DVD just fine, but I’m not able to access www.lotrdvd.com

So far, the only work-around I have is to fire up Virtual PC, but the Shockwave-heavy site is pretty slow under emulation.
