Lotus Approach problem opening databases

Have used Lotus Approach 9.7 for quite a while with no problems. When I first got it,pulled in several old .dbf files and saved them as .apr, and everything worked just fine.

My old computer (Win98SE) crashed, so had to get a new one with WinXP. I installed the Lotus suite, and the WordPro and and 123 files work perfectly.

However, when I open Approach and go to where all my databases are, click to open each of the .apr files, but get a message that the file “…can’t be found.” The File Type **is ** Lotus Approach 9 (.APR, etc), but it just won’t open. Tried several other types, but still no.

As this worked perfectly on my old computer, and the other Lotus programs work fine, what is wrong here?

I don’t have a lot of databases, but some of them are very big, and I’d hate to have to start all over again entering the data!

Make sure you have all the Windows updates from microsoft. There was a compatibility issue with Approach 9.x and XP. I remember having that issue where I worked when XP first came out. Googling looks like Microsoft fixed it. Other than that I got nothing.

Thanks, that’s interesting, but after checking Updates, everything was up-to-date, so guess may be SOL.

Your tables should be stored as xBase (dBase) tables somewhere; look for .dbf or .db4 files - these can be opened or imported into just about any other database application. Forms and queries will have to be redone, but your data should be OK.
