Love Monkey (aka Ed 2?) Tuesday night!

Just one. The second episode featured a nanny problem, a pop tart (not the food), and a guest appearance by LeAnn Rimes. It was good. This show is getting better every week. And Tom Cavanaugh is just so cute! I wonder, though: why does Jason Priestley still have that same durned “90210” haircut?

Yeah, this show started out pretty boring, but it has improved a lot since. I’m actually enjoying it now that they’re focusing more on the music biz side than on the guy-talk dating crap. I’m still not much on Wayne, though.

The fact that the show seems to not even have a basic grasp of how the music business works is honestly a major problem for me when I try to watch it. The idea that a major label A&R could just “go down to an indie label” is absurd; if anything, his major label experience would be seen as a detriment, and no indie label would want him.

Likewise, the things that he DOES are baffling - A&R guys are not responsible for booking and management; they do not plan events and book shows and artists. There’s at least an entire other fulltime career - booking agent or booking manager - that does those things. I’m sure it passes to the average viewer, but the job responsibilities that they’re giving the protagonist are so ridiculous that it would be like having a show about a lawyer where he has to plan a wedding reception for one of his clients, then rush to the hospital and perform lifesaving surgery. It makes no sense.

VCO3 that is the price you pay for an insider view. There was a show that was thankfully all-to-briefly on NBC last fall called Inconceivable set in a fertility clinic. That is the business I work in - and their “dramatic license” was extreme to the point of absurdity. I won’t go into details but omigod was it way off - and in this case, sending the wrong messages to people who might be considering fertility treatment - a huge life event…

oh, and [complete hijack]

VC03 - did you ever pick up a book on the world history, per your thread a few weeks back? You never weighed in on the recommendations offered, near as I can tell.

[/complete hijack - sorry!]

As a former ED fan, I’ve been tuning in and have mixed feelings after three episodes.

  • Tom Cavanaugh’s doing a credible job, BUT Jason Priestley seems to be absolutely mailing it in. Not that he was ever considered a Master Thespian, but he’s just awful.

  • I like the character who runs the label, BUT the 'guy who wants Tom to fall on his face, all up w his various degrees of indignity, is getting old already.

  • Wayne seems to be about the most interesting character, BUT he’s mostly in the background.

etc. As a 34 year old married male who engages in male bonding similar to what is shown on the show…I mean, who writes that stuff? It strikes me as the type of conversations some women think men have when they’re alone, but no. (of course, much of it seems contrived b/c Priestley probably reads his lines off a dry erase board just off-camera).

I like the camera work and scenic stuff - I’ve never been to NYC, have no idea about what living there would be like, but it seems cool in the show. It helps, I suppose, that all of the characters seem to have kick-ass jobs and plenty of money (how much would an apartment the size of Tom’s cost in NYC in real life)?

I’ll keep watching, just like I watch NCIS and Savannah Samson videos despite their faults.

It’s the way NCIS revels in its implausibility that makes it so much fun.

I quite like it.

VCO3 I think you have just discovered what every healthcare professional feels like when watching House/ER/Grey’s Anatomy etc. It’s great if you’re an outsider looking in, a big bunch of twaddle if you know the real life equivalent.

EXACTLY! I guess I also take some selfish enjoyment out of always (and I mean always) being able to figure out who the bad guy is within 30 seconds of that character’s introduction, and then watching the plot ‘twists’ to make that person the baddie. There are plot holes that are simply baffling on a near weekly basis.

It helps that Cote de Pablo makes for quality eye-candy.

I’ve liked this show… unfortunately I’ve seen postings on E! that it’s now been cancelled. Figures… Cite: http://www.eonline.com/Insider/Boards/ann.jspa?annID=382

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but RUMORS are that CBS will drop this show. It is being shopped to WB. Link
(I hope I will not be labeled King of Rumors, since I posted the rumors thing on the AD thread).

I am very bummed. Loved the show.
