I'm not the only one who likes these Adult Swim 'toons, am I?

I love, love, love Tom Goes to the Mayor. It never fails to crack me up. I think my favorite episode was the one in which Michael Ian Black guest starred; funny, funny shit. My second favorite epsisode was the one in which Brian Posehn (sp?) guest starred. Again, it was very funny.

Also, I just discovered last night that I think Squidbillies is quite funny. I don’t know what’s going on half the time, but the writing’s pretty sharp. I was in tears last night because I was laughing so hard at the episodes I’d recorded.

Finally, 12 Oz. Mouse is just plain hilarious. Again, I don’t know what’s going on half the time, but I do know that drunken mouse cracks me up. The shark’s pretty damn funny, too.

So, please tell me I’m not the only one who finds these cartoons funny. Pretty please?

Oh, and The Boondocks finally won me over with the whole ‘A Pimp Named Slickback’ routine. I must have watched that part ten times last night.

I can’t stand TGTTM. Hate it. Haaaaate it. It’s unpleasant to watch, unpleasant to listen to, unpleasant to think about.

I haven’t seen a whole episode of Squidbillies so I don’t have an opinion about it. Haven’t seen a moment of 12 Oz Mouse so no opinion.

I thought that ep of Boondocks was the weakest of the three I’ve seen, but I like the series overall.

I want more eps of that Devil’s daughter show. That was good.

No, you’re not the only one who likes TGTTM, but there are only a few of you, because it’s just not funny. At least, I don’t find it funny, and no one I know outside of the internet finds it funny either.

Squidbillies? You like that too? Oh dear Og. I watched two episodes of that, and just found it to be stupid…but not funny stupid (as contrast, Family Guy is funny stupid.)

And 12 Oz. Mouse…geez, probably my most hated of those three. Yes, it does lose points soley on the animation style, which, while unique, I don’t like, but even if it was animated as well as Futurama I woul still not like it.

I’m not a fan of the “say something deadpan that might kinda be funny…then pause for ten seconds” style of humor that TGTTM and 12 Oz Mouse seem to love doing. I find it’s an excuse for bad writing (they can’t fill up 12 minutes worth of actual mat erial, so we’ll make three minutes worth of awkward pauses. Funny the first time? Maybe. Funny the umpteenth time? No.)

I do like Boondocks, though, as well as Harvey Birdman, Aqua Teen, Sealab, Family Guy, Futurama, and, of course, Venture Brothers.

Go Team Venture!

I’ve tried and tried and I just can’t like Tom Goes to the Mayor. Yes, there’s alot of talent involved in that show, but shit, it’s just not funny.

Squidbillies has potential because of the characters, but they’re not there yet. And I thought TGTTM had potential, too.

But I do like 12 oz Mouse. I think it’s all of the drinking. Or the guns.

I just watched the premier of Perfect Hair Forever last night, and I think it has great potential. (see above) It’s basically the Willliams Street folks making fun of anime. If they can keep it from descending into just making fun of the Japanese, it’ll be great.

I’m a simple soul - I just like the Boondocks and Harvey Birdman.

Am I the only person here who watches S-Cry-Ed?

I love Tom Goes to the Mayor, but for some reason, I’ve only seen two episodes after watching the show four or five times. I don’t get 12 oz. Mouse…what’s so funny about it? The drawing is awful (I’m sure it’s meant to be), and from what I’ve seen, it’s the Mouse and the Shark sitting in the Shark’s office, saying nothing. Makes no sense. And who the hell is that blue peanut-shaped dude in the police cap, anyway?

I haven’t watched Squidbillies, but from what I’ve seen from the commercials, I’m avoiding it like the plague.

Boondocks is brilliant. I’m often surprised by some of the things they get away with in that show.

Mississippienne and I are obsessed with Samurai Champloo. We can’t understand why it’s not more popular, and it even seems that it’s on the verge of getting cut from the program sometimes. We figure that since there’s no magic, robots, or love interest, it doesn’t appeal to most people who like anime.

I also love Paranoia Agent. Very deep and psychological. For those who say they don’t understand that show, please understand that you simply must watch all the episodes in order to get it.

Yes.

The 12 oz Mouse theme song is fantastic. Like Motorhead after a three day whiskey binge.

Does the Adult Swim play “Bromwell High?”

I have no idea what’s so funny about it, but it’s my favorite new show in a long time (excepting Boondocks of course). I just can’t stop watching it, and I don’t usually even laugh, but afterwards it stays in my head forever.

But, I think Tom is the most annoying, least funny show ever. I refuse to watch it anymore (I think I gave it a fair shake). And I can’t exactly explain why I hate it so much but like 12 oz. Mouse. No accounting for taste, I guess.

In other news, I’m warming up to Stroker and Hoop. I thought I would HATE it but it’s definitely grown on me.

I’m slightly addicted to the cartoon network, which Adult swim is part of. It’s replaced my foodnetwork addiction, so I don’t know if this is moving in the right direction or not…

Favorites:
Venture Brother’s and Futurama
I’ll give Boon Docks a try next time it’s on!
FullMetal Alchemist
Samurai Champloo - though to be fair I don’t watch it anymore - I caught one show and bought the rest on dvd (though it’s only up to the fifth dvd). It’s great stuff! I’ve borrowed the dvd’s out to my cousin and will be hosting a samuari champloo night with the few people I know who like anime (there’s two, plus one friend who’ll come if I make lasagna) so I’m definately spreading the love of this show. Ah…Mugen…I would work in a brothel for you anytime…

Lately, I’ve been enjoying a few shows that aren’t really ‘Adult Swim’, but are a similar feel. The cartoon network has a fun Saturday night line up of Zatch Bell, Naruto and One Piece.

That’s pretty much my list. I can’t wait til the new season of Venture Brothers starts. (and the last season is released on DVD).

Cartoon Network is really trying to see how far they can push decontructing the cartoon. I used to think the animation in AquaTeen Hunger Force was crude until I saw TGTTM. And now iwth 12Oz Mouse and Squidbillies, they’ve pushed it even farther. It’s almost like listening to a radio show of unfocused rambling. I gotta admit I just plain don’t get it. (maybe if I toked up first)

My new favorite show is BoBo-bo-bo-boboboob (or something like that. It’s on Toonami on Saturday and it’s this insane Japanese show about a big guy with a yellow fro and attack nose hairs and such.

Are you kidding? That show was licensed while it was still in production! Huge deal! Anime fandom adores it. But they saw the whole series a year ago, so they may not be watching it on TV.

I personally find it kind of amusing that anime–known for being limited and on budget–is the best animation they have on Adult Swim. 'Course, now that they have Boondocks the race is hot again, even if Samurai Champloo is winning by a landslide.

I like all the other Adult Swim comedy 'toons, too. I just really like the ones I mentioned in the OP. The fact that I like them so much surprised me because I usually don’t go for so much. . .silliness, I guess would be the best word. I like what I like, however, and can’t deny it. I just wanted to know, thus far having been unable to find anyone in meatspace who likes them, if anyone on the Boards likes them.

I love Samurai Champloo. It’s a great show.

It has taken me a while to warm to The Boondocks. The anime-inspired animation, however, is top notch.

Still warming up to Samurai Champloo, but it hasn’t grabbed me yet. I feel like it could, and should, but it just doesn’t. I haven’t given up on it yet though.

Not like TGTTM and Squidbillies. If I had the choice between sitting through an episode of either of those shows, and plucking out all of my nose hairs one by one with a rusty set of pliers… it’d be a really tough decision.

12 Ounce Mouse is growing on me, though I’m not sure why.

Guess I’m in the minority about Boondocks; I don’t like it. It’s got its moments, but they’re few and far between.

Most of the rest of the comedy line-up I adore; and I’m a closet Inuyasha fan. I’m developing a drinking game where you have to take a sip every time Inuyasha or Kogome’s names are said.

The rest of the anime they air on Saturdays is hit or miss. Cowboy Bebop is great, FLCL is not. Fullmetal Alchemist is marred only by that tendency some anime artists have to over-express emotions in a silly way (streams of tears, huge eyes and mouths, etc.), and that is minus points in my book.

Adult Swim cartoons are the shit! I especially love me some Aqua Teen Hungerforce. Numbah One in da hood, G!

Aqua Teen, in its heyday, was about the funniest thing ever. The first two Mooninite episodes. Classic.

I love Harvey Birdman, Sealab (at least before Marko left), Robot Chicken (which was the second funniest thing ever), and of course Harvey Birdman. Also, Home Movies was very good. The friend who first told me to watch ATHF told me Squidbillies and 12 oz Mouse was very good. I got excited because the previous Adult Swim was so good, so I checked it out, and it was teeerrrible… Neither kept my attention for the 12 minute run time, and that’s pretty poor.

This thread is a new experience because I’ve never met anyone who likes Tom Goes To The Mayor.

I too luv it, but it only has one season.

Love Samurai Champloo. Love FullMetal Alchemist. Somebody on this board said that the second half of the series somehow gets even better than the first and I didn’t believe them. They were right. It was great before, now its’ effing awesome. Riza Hawkeye is my anime girlfriend so nice to get a little bit more background on her.

I could gush for days about Cartoon Network (Venture Bros., Stroker and Hoop, the superhero shows, old school Aqua Teen and Sealab), but back to the OP. Yes, you are. I tried them out, really I did, but they just left me cold. The Boondocks is an exception. They had me at Granddad at the protest in a rain coat and umbrella.

I always get shit for this, but to me shows like 12oz Mouse, TGTTM, PHF and Squidbillies are the reason Adult Swim was created!!!

They and ATHF, Sealab, and Harvey Birdman are the only successors to the granddaddy of all Adult Swim, namely SGC2C. They all have the same absurdist, pregnant pause, fake off the cuff style of comedy. You either utterly love these shows or utterly hate them. And those of us who love them can’t explain why to those who hate them!

Shows like Stroker & Hoop, Robot Chicken and, bleech!, Family Guy just don’t cut it. At all. The are strictly Fox and Comedy Central material, not AS. But they get great ratings, so if that keeps AS funded for another four years, well, my TiVo doesn’t care if it skips the crap…
