Really? I thought that when they started killing off (fairly) important characters it was a second season.
I hate TGTTM. I get so pissed when it pops up, mucking up the Adult Swim lineup.
Squidbillies … it ain’t working.
Haven’t seen Mouse yet.
Saw that one episode of Perfect Hair Forever they kept showing over and over … ugh. They’re making a series of that? F that. What the hell is their approval process over there? How does that crap get made, but Spacecataz get canned? I could watch Ignignokt and Err all friggin day.
The best Adult Swim:
- ATHF
- Sealab
- Venture Bros
- Harvey Birdman
Plus Futurama. But I never think of that as Adult Swim.
I enjoyed : ATHF, Samurai Champloo, Robot Chicken, Futurama, Family Guy
I disliked : Milk-chan, that Tom goes to the Mayor show
I agree with this 100%.
Neither have I, which is why I started this thread.
yes, but
they’re experimenting, I get that. but when it comes to squidbillies and TGTTM, they failed. Whereas ATHF, Sealab, Harvey Birdman, and SGC2C were hilarious. Hell, I wish they would run the old interstitials from that afternoon cartoon block Brak used to host–way better than TGTTM.
Tom Goes to the Mayor is probably the dumbest show I’ve ever seen.
It took me a while to warm to Aqua Teen but now I love it.
Robot Chicken has had me dying on more than one occasion. The Office: Cobra was brilliant!
I think I was the only person to enjoy Witch Hunter Robin and I don’t like most anime.
I keep forgetting Boondocks is on.
Which brings us to
YES! That was awesome. Does anyone have any idea when it’s coming back?
It was just the pilot, and may not come back at all. This is how Adult Swim operates with some of its orignal shows. It will give us the pilot, view fan reactions from ratings, emails, and the message board, and then decide whether or not to greenlight it.
Of the newer Adult Swim series:
I’m not too sure about Squidbillies. I think it may be starting out a bit slow, kinda like Aqua Teen did. I’ll probably keep watching. I mostly like it.
Tom Goes to the Mayor is crap.
Boondocks looks pretty good so far.
12oz. Mouse I’m on the fence about, leaning towards “no”.
That Devil-ette one looked like it might be good. One 15 minute spot is too little to go off of.
Robot Chicken is great.
Not too sure on Stroker and Hoop, leaning towards “if there’s nothing else on”.
…
Venture Brothers really needs to come back with new episodes. New ATHF in Dec. (yea!). Harvey Birdman has been really good this year.
Haven’t had a chance to see most of this newer stuff, but I was a huge fan of all the ATHF/sealab/etc stuff people have mentioned. I don’t think anyone’s mentioned The Brak Show yet though… LOVED The Brak Show.
(I vaguely remember we came up with a brak show drinking game one night while going through the 1st season…disastrous. Only remember a few rules, but I remember drinking every time we heard “Oh maen” “Oh no!” and whenever someone breaks into song or dances)
Well said. I haven’t seen those shows, but I got tired of this when Family Guy was still the only show doing it.
I agree with Hallucinex . I also love The Brak Show. And I really like the name “Hallucinex”.
They had Couch McGuirk as the devil and Melissa as the devil’s daughter mackin’ on DJ Jesus. Flippin’ sweet!
Scr-y-ed is a good solid anime story. Champloo is good but I keep wanting there to be more to the story, more to the sunflower samurai ark. I do love the anachronism and the glibness of the storytelling… like that ep that ends describing purple haze… and then the narrator goes “Gotcha!” and you realize his “story” has just been reading some Hendrix lyrics. Fullmetal Achemist is AWESOME, though I hear that the ending is unsatisfying and that the movie is an AWFUL mangling of the story. Stay away…
As for the Comedy era: you can’t help but miss the golden years: Space Ghost was still on, Aqua Teen was just starting up, Home Movies was rocking out… all was good. Too much of the schedule is filled up now with boring shit like American Dad, the Oddballs (or whatever that show is), Tom goes to the Mayor, and so on. Weak, but then you can’t have a golden era EVERY yeay.
On the plus side, as you may have noticed, Ghost in the Shell’s second season is finally airing. It’s incredibly, incredibly good stuff: deep and lyrical, and an improvement on the first season in virtually every way. It’s only downside for some is that or an action show, it’s got a hell of a lot of people just sitting around and talking before kicking ass. But the story is top-notch, and you’re sure to get hooked…
Hear hear. And add a big pile of 12 oz. Mouse while you’re at it.
An approach that seemed fresh and welcome back in the SGC2C days now just seems mannered and slightly pandering, like I’m constantly being poked in the ribs: “How’s this? This out there? This is really fucked up, ain’t it? See how crappy the drawing is? Oh yeah!” — and so on. Not counting Boondocks, the only good comedy [as] has come out with lately is Venture Bros.; not only is the writing smart and fast-paced, it’s nice to see a cartoon designed by someone who can actually draw.
“Cartoon Planet.” Most of that stuff recycled old cartoons and films without permission, so there’ll never be a full-on, legitimate release of the entire show. However, some of the material was cleared and put on the Brak Show DVD as a bonus feature.
I’ve been trying to turn people on to ATHF, but I have trouble describing the show to someone who’s never seen it before. A-like so.
Me: It’s the funniest show ever. It’s about these, um…food people.
Unsuspecting Friend: What?
Me: Well, you know how McDonald’s has Fry Guys and Mayor McCheese? It’s like
that.
UF: Ohhh…
Me: Yeah, and they meet all these weird aliens and tar monsters and stuff…
UF: Uh huh. uninterested look
You just have to show it to them, I guess. And though I love the Mooninites, the Plutonians have a special place in my heart.
I also dig Futurama, Family Guy, Harvey Birdman and Robot Chicken. Did anyone see the Futurama episode tonight about Leela’s parents? Damn, makes me cry every time.
Well, there’s me, but I’m kind of a nobody, so it cancels out. :smack:
And a lot of the Williams Street stuff I find kind of…um…not good. I mean, a few of 'em are top-notch (Robot Chicken, Stroker & Hoop, ATHF, etc.), but on the whole, I rather prefer Adult Swim’s anime. (YOU HEAR ME, LAZZO? I liked “Outlaw Star” better than “The Brak Show” and about half of “Sealab”! )
And I’d to see TGTTM in a rusty gibbet, swaying gently in the summer breeze.
While I don’t like TGttM much, I have to say that the theme song is annoyingly catchy.
I really like Tom Goes to the Mayor, although I haven’t seen many episodes of it since I don’t have cable now and I never know when new seasons start. Remember the Christmas episode where Tom draws that “Rats off to You!” shirt and someone rips it off? God, that was the funniest thing I’d seen in months.
Didn’t know they made Squidbillies into an actual show and I’ve never heard of 12 oz Mouse.
