not exactly a love scene, but there are kisses and it’s a video game - rogue in one of the marvel superheroes combo fest.
I think Phantasmagoria had some (FMV) sex scenes in it, way back when. And there was at least one romantic subplot in one of the KOTOR games, apparently, but I’d doubt we even get to see a “fade to black” followed by a Jedi couple under the Hollywood “L” bedsheet.
The way I remember it, you walk into the ship’s bar, and both of them are sitting there, glaring at each other – and then they simultaneously turn and glare at you.
Whichever one you choose to talk to, you basically start making out with, while the other gets all huffy and leaves.
Of course, like an idiot, the first time I played it through, I just didn’t talk to either of them. Worst of both worlds – the pilot doesn’t watch your back, the mechanic doesn’t bother maintaining your ship. (That last just basically meant you chose your own loadouts. I always loaded up on IFF missles…)
At the end of Super Mario 64, after Mario saves the day, the Princess promises to bake him a cake.
Guess that could be considered romantic, if he values desserts over smooches…
Arcanum has a couple of fades-to-black in lieu of actual sex scenes. I recall two places: in the whorehouse (5 to choose from, and even a sheep) and in the love goddess’s temple. After returning a statue, the priestess invites you to a celebratory orgy. Accept, and the next thing you know you’ll be naked on the floor with a few dozen other people, all of whom are at -9999 fatigue.
In Neverwinter Nights you can write your own custom scene, and one of the common NPCs available is a prostitute, complete with come-on lines. There are modules written by variuos people that get very specific about such encounters.
I remember reading from the Something Awful forums about a guy who was looking to cyber in Everquest, and wasn’t very smooth about it, so someone pretended to be a girl and “cybered” with him. An accomplice entered the “room” and recorded the encounter, then posted it on an EQ forum. The victim went into meltdown mode, making empty but funny threats.
In the first one you even get to see Tetelo’s pixellated boobs – although that’s in a voodoo ritual, not a love scene. Oh, and in the second one your new pal Von Glower buys you a prostitute. (But it’s a fade-out.)

In Fable, therre are several people you can marry, women and men alike, and even be married to more than one at a atime. As long as you keep paying attention to them, you can go back to your house and sleep with them. Sometimes it’s funny, because a few of the women have great lines, such as,
“Oooh, you’re so norty!”
(naughty, but with some kind of accent to make it sound like norty.)
If by sex scene you mean the main character raping his wife in the bathroom and leaving her crying on the floor then yes there’s one in Phantasmagoria
Heh, yeah, far from it. That was KotOR1 - in KotOR2 you can show some romantic interest but that’s about it.
KotOR1 has 3 potential love interests (not all available to every PC; it’s gender-dependent), and by very close to the end of the game two of the love interest NPCs might tell you he/she loves you. For the third, you can admit your feelings yourself. I don’t think you even see so much as a hug or smooch.
You’re right. For some reason I thought it was in the lift. Maybe there was a scene in the lift with the one who got pissed off.
Ms. Pac-Man
There was a consensual sex scene very early in the game. (And the main character was the wife. And the rapist was demon-possessed.)
When you rescue the princess in Defender of the Crown you got a great little cutscene of yourself and the princess (who’s wearing a see through dress). Sex is just implied but at the time it was about the most explicit thing I’d ever seen.
Really? I don’t remember the consensual sex scene. I guess it shows how my memory runs.
To answer some questions posed in this thread. I thought I had made it clear in the OP that I was looking for actual LOVE/SEX scenes in video games. Not fade outs. Not baked cakes. Not kisses or romantic sub-plots.
I’m not saying that these additions aren’t interesting in terms of the general discussion… thye are just off the original topic.
I’m talking ‘love scenes’ in the movie sense.
In MAFIA you see two characters having sex in a very cinematic scene (cuts, close ups, music and voice over). It’s kind of creepy wathing pixels going at it.
My favorite video game love scene has to be the one in Karateka.
After defeating 50 or so martial-arts minions, battling your way room by room through the castle, and finally toppling the evil samurai who’s twice your size (and much better dressed), you reach the prison cell where the lovely Princess Mariko has been held captive all this time.
Approach her now, gently, gently. She waits for you, her rescuing angel, her liberator, her hero. Calmly walk up to her…
Whammo! She fells you in one kick. Six months of practice, and six hours of gameplay, instantly flushed down the toilet.
I understand there was an alternate ending to that game ( ), though one not nearly as rewarding.
Sheesh-Hell, I wouldn’t know, I never played the bloody thing. All I remember is the critics’ murmurings about the “explicit” content in the video.
There’s a full-on sex scene in the amazingly crappy old PC game Hardline. Tits and everything. Not CGI, either: compressed video. They made the actress get naked for that piece of shit game.
Now that it’s been mentioned, Phatasmagoria 2 had a rather explicit sex scene invovling S&M. Actually, it felt like they played up the S&M think a bit too much in the game.
The fanmade game “Quest for Glory 4 1/2” had a very disturbing(optional) sex scene in it.
