Love Songs for people who have lowered their standards.

All good. Oh how I laughed.

I also thought of the old Righteous brothers classic

You’re okay, and your looks are acceptable
You’re good enough to get me by.

or from Carly Simon

Somebody does it better
but I haven’t dated them yet
Somebody does it, twice as good as you.
but you’re a real safe bet
Leo Sayer’s

You make me feel unthreatened
and thats why I hang around

or the Gladys Knight classic

You’re the best thing, that’s ever happened to me,…recently.

I done this song a few hundred times. Always did it as “snuff queen” which I took to mean into cocaine, but since I’m not into the stuff I was never sure. Maybe it’s some Florida keys reference the general public doesn’t get.

I just checked about ten different lyric sites. One said snub ALLLLLL the others said snuff.

Looooooo-ving yoooouu…is easy cause there’s no one left,
For me to pin my hopes on.
Looooooo-ving yoooouu…would be just like a dream come true,
If only you were taller, not so fat and had much better teeth & hair.
La la la la la, la la la la la, AAAAAAAAhahaahhhhhaahaaa.

LOL another gem…

I’m looking at the back of A White Sport Coat and a Pick Crustacean.

Snuff queen.

Hey, this thread reminds me of “song lyrics” I wrote a few years ago for a story…

With real songs, though, you can’t get much less enthusastic for a lover than “Skeleton Key” by Margot and The Nuclear So & So’s

And it’s clear to see
You’re nothing special
You’re a skeleton key

ouch.

From a Jimmy buffett faq

A new rendering of Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell:

With a conformist’s whisper he cries less, less, less.

Are we looking for parody lyrics or real lyrics? If the latter, I’ve always been touched by this from Frank Zapa:

She stripped off her rancid poncho
And laid out naked by the door;
We did it 'til we were unconcho,
and it was useless anymore.

Business Time.

I got a girl, she lives on the hill.
She won’t do it but her sister will,
–ZZ Top, “Tube Snake Boogie”

'Cause if my baby don’t love me no more,
I know her sister will!
–Jimi Hendrix, “Red House”

Stephen Stills put it the best:

If you can’t be with the one you love, honey
Love the one you’re with.

Is that you, Dyna-Mo? Dyna-Mo Hum? Now just where did I put those zircon-encrusted tweezers…

But he was with her–and two out of three ain’t bad. Being in a relationship with someone who is more involved with a figment from the past is a fairly low standard. The other girl did it to Meatloaf, and he did it to the current girl. (or so he sings)

I poured it on and I poured it out
I tried to show you just how much I care

He can’t use the word “love” because of before - its not that he doesn’t care - he doesn’t want to go - She is demanding from him the one thing he ‘can’t do’ -

*Youll never find your gold on a sandy beach
Youll never drill for oil on a city street
I know youre looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks
But there aint no coupe de ville hiding at the bottom of a cracker jack box

I cant lie
I cant tell you that Im something Im not
No matter how I try
Ill never be able
To give you something
Something that I just havent got*

So, I don’t see it as him or her settling - I see it as him doing everything possible to show her he cares - but he just wont allow himself to “love” her.

Of course, when he says:

Theres only one girl that I will ever love
And that was so many years ago
And though I know Ill never get her out of my heart
She never loved me back

Both shows that he’s capable, but still ‘heart broken’ enough…

Or, it could prove your poiint - I just don’t see it that way.

Not sure what the OP is looking for but here goes:

Olivia Newton-John’s “Hopelessly Indifferent to You”

Savage Garden’s

“I’ll be your dream, I’ll be your wish, I’ll be your fantasy.
I’ll be your hope, I’ll be your love be everything that you need.
I’ll love you more with every breath kinda sorta maybe do …”

Shania Twain’s

“For the moment
Life has begun
For the moment
You are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
For the moment…um.”

Me too!

Since half the posters are giving real lyrics rather than what th OP asked for, I will too: the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” begins…

I may not always love you

which has been cited as an unusually honest way to begin a love song.

Pearl Jam’s Better Man

“She lies and says she’s in love with him, can’t find a better man…”

In The Pirates of Penzance the lead lowers his standards over the course of a song. The first verse:

“Oh, is there not one maiden breast
Which does not feel the moral beauty
Of making worldly interest
Subordinate to sense of duty?
Who would not give up willingly
All matrimonial ambition,
To rescue such a one as I
From his unfortunate position?
From his position,
To rescue such an one as I
From his unfortunate position?”

Whereupon he is roundly rejected. He follows by lowering his standards:

“Oh, is there not one maiden here
Whose homely face and bad complexion
Have caused all hope to disappear
Of ever winning man’s affection?
Of such a one, if such there be,
I swear by Heaven’s arch above you,
If you will cast your eyes on me,
However plain you be, I’ll love you,
However plain you be,
If you will cast your eyes on me,
However plain you be I’ll love you.”
