Love Songs for people who have lowered their standards.

This thread looks not entirely boring. I have one that might be passable. An actual hit on country music stations, “Third Rate Romance” by Sammy Kershaw. Here are some sort of illustrative lyrics:

She said, “You don’t look like my type
But I guess you’ll do”
Third rate romance
Low rent rendezvous
And he said, “I’ll even tell you that I love you
If you want me to”
Third rate romance
Low rent rendezvous

Wild-a** guess: she stars in a lot of snuff films (pornographic depictions of people getting killed).

Come on baby, light this matchstick
Gonna set the dusk to warm!

I’ll slow down world
and shake hands with you
You’ve seen the difference
And it’s not improving much at all
I’m a boy, yes I am
and I can’t help but you like a little bit.
You’ve seen the difference
And it’s not improving much at all.

I think the line is Snub Queen.

No, it’s snuff. Trust me on this one.

Meatloaf’s “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad”

I had a friend who honestly thought the lyrics went:

“I believe in miracles
Wear your bra
You sexy thing.”

It just sort of sat that way in his head for 20 years.

Johnny Angel
Yeah, I know him
And I’m pretty sure that he knows me
And together maybe we could sit and watch TV

You’re one of many women in the world to me
Not my cup of tea
No big deal to me

Disagree on this one - he’s simply saying that he’ll never love her the way he loved the one that left him “all those many years ago”… to the point that he can’t even say that he loves her.

It’s all right the way your sparkling earrings lay
Against your skin so brown
And I wanna sleep with you in the desert tonight
Cause there’s no one else willing around.

I get this feeling I may know you
As a quick lay that’s gonna end
But this voice keeps whispering in my other ear
Don’t care if I never see you again

I’ve got a peaceful, easy feeling
And I know you won’t let me down
Cause my standards have been lowered
To the ground.

Weezer’s ‘‘No Other One’’

*My girls a liar
But Ill stand beside her
Shes all I’ve got and I don’t want to be alone
My girl don’t see me
When shes with my friends
Shes all I’ve got and I don’t want to be alone

No, there is no other one
No, there is no other one
I cant have any other one
Though I would, now I never could with one*

I hope you don’t mind,
I hope you don’t mind,
That I put down in words
How tolerable life is
Now you’re in the world…

If loving you is wrong
I don’t want to be wrong

“To all the girls I’ve seen before…
Who’ve wandered past my office door…”

–“Share your time with me” by Aretha Franklin

–“Tunnel of Fun” by Dire Straits

–“Like to Like You, Baby” by Donna Summer

–“I’d like you to like me” By Cheap Trick

–“Can you feel the just friendship tonight?” by Elton John

–“Sunshine of your companionship” By Eric Clapton

–“I’ll have to say I like you in a tune” By Jim Croce

–“Nice to see you” By the Moody Blues

–“Bye Bye Friend” By the Everly Brothers

Etc…

It doesn’t fit the OP exactly, but this thread made me think of the song “Part Time Model” by Flight of the Conchords.

You’re so beautiful
You could be a part-time model
But you’d probably still have to keep your normal job.

As far as this category goes, here is the standard by which all others are compared:

Well, think of the lyricist-- Lorenz Hart was a short, homely gay man. He was no prize himself and he knew it. The lyrics were really Hart’s own dream, his own fantasy of what his perfect lover would say to him.

His hope (and it’s a hope shared by many) was to find someone who’d say “I love you in spite of your flaws… no, better yet, I love you in part BECAUSE of your flaws.”

LOL good one.

Now that’s what I’m talking about.

I trust no one!

I always heard it as “snow queen” (as in frigid), a term I have heard before. Never heard of a “snuff queen.”

Who has the liner notes? Internet sources seem to be in disagreement on this. We’re going to need Jimmy to settle it.
