Title edited to reflect that this is now a continuing discussion.
I deliberately went of the reservation today for a variety of reasons, and not least of which I am below 170 pounds.
a couple of whole milk cappuccino’s for breakfast, a large pizza with the bambina’s for lunch with a beer, dinner was a spread with steak, shrimp, scallops, mashed potatoes, duck, guacamole and chips, a couple of beers, bread and more topped off with a German chocolate cake (that’s been my birthday cake choice since I was a kid. Much better when my eldest makes it, but today managed to make do with a store bought version). I don’t exactly feel ill, but I’m already back to zero carbs and will keep this up for a while longer.
Sounds like fun.
A fun milestone today: a belt that’s been hanging in my closet for years because I was too large for it now fits again.
All of my belts except for my web belts are too big for me.
Well, I regained about half what I lost, but I’m not discouraged. I expect to keep drifting downward, a little at a time.
Another Monday, another weigh-in day.
Down 4.6 lbs. (exact same as last week) for a 5-week total of 24.5.
Congrats to all those with positive belt news!

Out of curiosity I hit the scale today and I’m down about 12 pounds–without once having to think about it or feeling hungry. I’m eating like a champ but still dropping pounds and I know my next A1C is going to be a LOT better. This is pretty cool!
Thanks for the feedback, people! About belts – they are most definitely one of the true indicators of our bodies changing! Yes indeed.
For lunch I just had: an avocado, a small perfectly ripe mango, about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and a small tomato. I’ll have meat and veggies tonight.
Tomorrow I plan on swimming in the very early morning. I am telling you here and now to make myself accountable. I have been talking about it for a month, and blowing it off morning after morning. I’ll report back! You are all great inspiration. Thanks for getting this going, MMM.
scottergirl, fight the power! Hit the water tomorrow.
Dunno, I had a light bulb moment when I figured out that I didn’t have to give up booze *and *everything else to make weight. Sad statement on many levels, to be sure, but I’ll cut back on the whiskey right about Wed when my soon to be ex is out of the country.
Way to go, Scooter! Be sure to come back and tell us that you did it!
As for belts, I very rarely wear one. I do have tons of like-new clothes that have not fit me in 2+ years. Another ten lbs. or so and I’ll have a whole new wardrobe without spending a nickel.

Moral of the story: if you don’t want to have to spend £12 on a replacement scale, don’t bang them around. ![]()
I hit the water this morning at exactly 0630! I did laps for 30 minutes. Years ago I swam 3x/wk for about a year. I was reminded this morning how good it makes me feel. I am at work now and ready to start my day totally and completely energized! I’m lucky to have a very nice public pool near my house. And being a city/government employee gets me in free. No excuses!
Good job SG!
My goal is to walk after dark. Light is a problem for me, so I’m going to try this.
Yesterday we went out for a belated Father’s Day dinner. I was fine for the main course, but someone ordered mud pie for dessert. Picking myself up and starting today afresh.
Someone brought in a huge bag of various types of bagels and containers of cream cheese in to work this morning. Folks were bageling up all around me.
I did well, didn’t even “almost” have one (and bagels are their own food group to me).
I always feel great after little victories such as this.

Good for you! My colleagues are doughnut crazy lately. It seems like every department has a dozen or more every week. I had a small corner of one the other day instead of my usual 1 or maybe even two. I’m finding that when at work if I can resist my initial urge to eat something someone brought in to share, whatever it is will be gone within an hour anyways. There is not a day that goes by that one of our departments isn’t indulging in something. Every once in a while we have healthy and low carb foods, but not often. Sugar prevails around here. ![]()
Well, I thought it was funny.
Didn’t pay attention to the numbers before- you’ve been losing >4 lbs a week?? Are you severely restricting calories?
I went camping with my twins this weekend. We made chili over an open fire in my pioneer style cast iron pot with three legs. I dutifully used a 3 gr net carb tortilla, scooped in beans and inhaled. Then I realized that beans have some carbs and I’m sure I went way over 20 gr. So, I said screw it, had a couple of doughboys (basically a biscuit on a stick cooked over a fire) with spun honey (childhood camping staple). I think I’m gonna go for one gluttonous meal per week where I don’t watch my carbs. Otherwise, I’ve been a good boy and under 20 net carbs per day
