I’ve been slipping a bit lately, staying at other peoples homes, that sort of thing.
So no loss for me this week, stuck at 181.
I’d ideally like to lose another 5-10lbs.
We’ll see.

Sheesh, I’m two weeks with no loss. I’ve got a pork butt in the sous vide that’s coming out tomorrow. After that, I’m going back to a pescatarian/whole grain diet, and counting calories. The no carb thing got me down from under 180 to 165. My red line in the sand is I can’t ever go back over 169. I’d like to rachet down to getting under 160.
Anyhoo, appreciate the support, best of luck to everyone’s diet, and I may return to be active in this thread.
I just weighed myself yesterday. I’m down to 173.6 lbs, down from my original 188.8.

OP checking in.
I haven’t posted lately, but I’ve been sticking to the low carb thang. It’s been 8 weeks and I’ve only had one day where I ate more than 20 carbs.
The weight loss stalled for two weeks, then I had a significant loss the following week.
I didn’t let myself get discouraged when the weight loss stalled because I expected it to happen at some point. The important part of it was to soldier on with the plan regardless of what the scale said.
I am down 26.2 lbs. over an 8-week period. Losing an average of 3.2 lbs. per week.
So who is still with me?
Or who is ready to get back on the wagon?
mmm
Still here.
Can’t say I’m sticking to 20 carbs, but still at it.
Down to 180 right now.
So it’s still working, just slowly.
After three days shy of four months, I’m down 50.
You were probably still losing fat, just holding water for awhile. I just recently came out of one of those periods.
Up to my three month (=13 week =91 day) mark I was counting individual days in my weight loss journal. I stopped counting days after that, and now that I’m coming up on my six month (=26 week) mark I may stop counting weeks. Progress of course but still it’s a long way to Tipperary.
I’m surprised how much weight some of you are losing in a short period of time.
I’m 3 months today with a total of 25lbs loss.
The most I’d like to lose from here is another 10, but will see how that looks on me, if I don’t like it, this weight seems not bad.
Let’s just say that some of us surely have a lot more to lose than others. ![]()

I went into the office yesterday. (I didn’t go last Thursday because the 4th of July is like a war zone up here, and telecommuting gave me another 90 minutes of sleep.) I wore a blue-and-white striped button-down shirt, my new 38" Levi’s, and a blue USAF web belt. (Web belts never get too small.
) One of my coworkers said, ‘OK, I’m tired of the button-down shirts. You need to wear a T-shirt. Wear a T-shirt on Thursday.’ I got the impression she wanted me to wear a tight T-shirt. That’s felt a little weird.
When I got home, Mrs. L.A. said, ‘You look cute!’
OP checking in / resuscitating thread.
I’m still plugging along, still maintaining less than 20 gms carbs per day (well except that one day, and that one weekend :))
It has been 11 weeks since I began - and since I started this thread - and I am down 32.6 lbs.
Yesterday I brought up a stack of clothes from the basement that I had banished from sight because I could not get into them. Size 38 shorts, mostly (I was up to a 42).
I feel like I just got a whole new wardrobe.
More new clothes to come, though. I *still *can’t wear many of my XL shirts. Once I get into them (another 15-20 lbs., probably), I’ll be happy as a clam.
Anyone else care to check in?
(BTW, of my 11 ‘official’ weigh-ins, I actually gained weight on 3 of them; I made a conscious effort to turn these into positive motivation going forward. So far it’s working.)
In other words, come on back in if you’ve drifted!
mmm
I weighed myself yesterday, and I was down 53 pounds. It looks like I’m slowing down. I’ve only lost five and a half pounds in the last month (since June 27th). At 198, I’m close to my 190 pound goal I set for the end of October.
I now need a belt for the 38" Levi’s 501s I bought a couple ago (not to mention the 40" ones I’d bought earlier) and the two pair Carhartt shorts I bought recently are already loose – and have fallen down a couple of times.
Low-carbbing as well. Sorry if this has been asked upthread (I am not going to go down all 8 pages) but is it true that eating carbs alongside of meat protein tends to mitigate the “load” of the protein on the kidneys, and that if you eat protein alone with no carbs that you therefore strain the kidneys harder?
I think it’s important to note that a low carbohydrate diet is NOT a high protein diet. It is a high fat diet. You should aim for 0.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight. There’s no need to worry about the protein load on your kidneys.
Agreed; I don’t buy lean meat anymore. I buy tuna canned in oil, the cheap non-lean hamburger, and the fattier cuts of chicken and turkey like thighs.
Two weeks since last weighing, too soon to reweigh myself; and I’m having a “bloat” day so I think I’d be discouraged if I did.
Breakfast: 1 egg, scrambled, and divided into two burritos on low-carb tortillas with shredded Tillamook cheddar and Yucatan Sunshine.
Lunch: One tuna salad wrap with jalapeños.
Exercise: Unloaded 460 pounds of debris at the dump. Returned home and finished demolishing the roof that was over the exterior cabinets. Loaded another full load into the Tacoma. (Who knew asphalt shingles were so heavy?) Swept the driveway. About two hours of work, not including the first trip to the dump.
I lost a lot of water through sweating, and a little blood that was handily absorbed by my shorts. Weight before showering: 195 pounds. Loss to date: 56 pounds.
Okay, I’m in. My PCP asked me to try a few months of keto to reverse the trend in my A1c. Let’s hope Tamoxifen is as efficient at stopping cancer as it is at packing on weight and raising blood sugar.
Most impressive, Johnny, but…
No more details, please! ![]()

Here are the details anyway: Got scraped doing some work a. Put a Band-Aid on it. Took the Band-Aid off the next, and it took off a layer of skin. Decided to let it air-heal. Then I was doing the demolition and bumped the uncovered wound on some lumber. Leakage ensued. Rested my arm on my thigh when I was starting the truck. Blood on shorts.
I started keto on 7-19. No cheats since then (two accidental glitches: I had a small salad with unlabeled surimi, so 8 carbs there, and took a mouthful of beef at a wedding, discovered it had a sugary sauce, and didn’t eat any more). I go to 4-6 Zumba classes a week (in this 1.5 weeks, I’m leading 6 of them) and try to hit the treadmill for a sustained walk at least once a week. My diet before keto wasn’t bad–mostly plant-based, a few snacks, not a lot of simple carbs, some fruit, olive oil. Mediterranean-ish.
At 13 days in, my weight is -3.5#, which is where it has hovered since day 5. My fasting blood sugar dropped about 15 points by day 5 and remains at about 115. Keto strips show me in the small to moderate range, where my PCP wants me. I have eaten out only once. I had an egg and tea. My macro ratios are where they’re supposed to be. I’ve sent my food log to my PCP and she had no corrections for me to make. Pretty frustrated to be so scrupulous and see so little change.
