"Low Life" lyrics wrong- any others?

This new release by Theory of a Dead Man mentions an " '82 Fiero". There were none- Fieros were made model years '84 to '88. Are there any other songs out there with obviously wrong lyrics? Oh, and how could Kevin Cronin (R.E.O. Speedwagon) be watching the full moon if there’s such a big storm happening?

I’ve got a knuckle sandwich for the first person who chimes in with “Ironic” by Alanis Morisette.

I think I’ve mentioned this before in a similar thread, but in Johnny Cash’s “The Man Comes Around” there’s a line about “the father hen will call his chickens home.”

I saw a film today, oh boy.
The English army had just won the war.

Ahhhh, John. Shouldn’t that be the British army?

The song “Wildfire” by Michael Murphey mentions a pony pony lost in a “killing frost” - which as the objection in the link explains, frost kills crops, not ponies and humans. (Yes, a blizzard is mentioned at the end of the verse - that’s the notable bit, not a frost! Frost happens daily in winter.)

Not to mention that most adults wouldn’t actually be able to (humanely) ride the average pony - Wildfire should have been a horse.

Speaking of Johnny Cash, if he “shot a man in Reno” (Nevada), why is he in Folsom Prison (a California State institution)?

That’s a reference to an actual quotation from Jesus:

Johnny’s playing with a bit of poetic license there :stuck_out_tongue:

My, my: At Waterloo Napoleon did surrender.

Nope. He was defeated and captured, but never surrendered.

He’s not in prison for shooting the man in Reno; he’s in prison in California for another crime (probably a murder, since Nevada would have extradited him if it were a lesser crime – if they knew he was involved, which they may not). The song does not specify he’s in Folsom prison for this; just that it showed how he ignored his mother’s advice.

Maybe the film was “Henry V.”

I’ve posted about this before (and gotten grief for it), but - what the heck:

In Metallica’s Of Wolf And Man: “It’s later than you realize”.

It’s just not possible for it to be later than you realize. It might be later than you think it is, but once you realize something, you are right about it.

“They All Laughed” by Ella Fitzgerald. People knew the world was round by the time Columbus discovered America - they laughed because he calculated the circumference as much smaller than it is.

I don’t know if the derisive attitute towards Edison, Marconi et al is accurate or not.

“Born and raised in South Detroit.”

AKA Canada.

Wouldn’t that be East Detroit?

“[Pride] In The Name Of Love”–

“Early morning, April 4/a shot rang out in the Memphis sky…”

MLK was shot in the evening, around 6pm.

East Detroit is actually north of Detroit, and it also doesn’t exist anymore, having changed its name to Eastpointe.

Windsor, Canada is to the south of Detroit, MI, however.

Isn’t it. . .

never mind

My bigger problem with this song is that the situation described isn’t really all that similar to the Battle of Waterloo. I mean, I get that it’s a metaphor, but we are told by the singer that she “met [her] destiny in quite a similar way” to Napoleon. I always think “Uh, not really that similar.”

Dangit, I need to look up stuff rather than rely on my spotty memory of the US and how/where it borders Canada. :smack:

Yeah, and Bono could have made it “early EVENING, April 4” and the line still would have scanned. And been accurate.

My contribution … also previously mentioned by me elsewhere on the Dope … Sammy Hagar and “Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy.” He sings about “hot sweet cherries on the vine.” Uh, Sammy … cherries grow on trees, not on vines. Although to be charitable, the cherries he’s referring to are, well, probably more of the female variety than the tree variety.

But it’s still a stupid line to sing.
