Low Maintenance Lawn

I’ve been hearing lately about low maintenance lawns and have some spots in the back yard that would be good for this. Has anyone done this? And how do you like it?

I live in Houston and so far have not been able to find much information on what would be the best way to go. I’ve searched online without much luck and I stopped at a few garden shops and the people I spoke with weren’t helpful.

What I want is something relatively flat, where the dogs can go when outside. Right now, they usually go on the pavement.

Now that the weather should start getting cooler, I really want to start this project. Any comment, suggestions or websites would be greatly appreciated.

Lots and lots of information on the internet. You might need to brush up on your googlosity skills.

Here’s one: 10 Drought-Resistant Grasses for Low-Maintenance Lawns

One of the biggest mistakes people make with lawns is watering. You can train your lawn to be drought resistant simply by not watering until it starts to dry out, not on the surface but as evidenced by a lack of luster in the greenness of your grass. I live in So cal and water at the most 12 times a year and always have a green lawn. I do a long soak and don’t water again till it starts to change color, simple as that.
