Lullaby.. ( possible spoilers if you haven't read it)

Thanks to several recommendations from the SDMB members to read Chuck Palahniuck, I picked up Lullaby a week ago. I am about halfway through it and no it hasn’t taken me that long to read it but with the holiday I just haven’t had the time to read.

I am enjoying it for the most part. The Wiccan meeting had me falling over laughing. Oyster would have been SO DEAD had I been in Carl’s place.

My only complaint is that the author seems to jump around a lot. I was totally caught off guard and missed the point where Helen stopped being an adversary and started being an ally. And one page the characters are standing around a dead parrot and two pages later they are in a car driving all over the US looking for copies of the poem.

Okay, I grant all the details between those two points are easily left out and pretty tedious to read. But it was a bit of a jarring experience especially given Oyster’s behavior previously.

But still, I have to say this is one weird book and I am enjoying it immensely!

Just so I can be the first to say it, if you like Lullaby you’ll probably like Fight Club even more.

Oops, I just broke the first rule…

I thought Lullaby was well written, but depressing as heck.

It didn’t make me want to read any more Chuk Palahniuk.

But I like more cheerful books, as a rule.
