Welcome, Bluesman and thanks to Lucretia for drawing another funny, bright, twisted soul into this dysfucntional fold. Hey, ya got no excuse…you even met some of these weirdos in PERSON!
[Is this a trend? Dopers In Uniform? Chief Scott, Monty, Bluepony…the mind reels]
Hey cool, welcome to the board. We need more Blue People.
Since you work with the NSA, just thought I’d let you know that there’s a Doper here called Coldfire (aka “Clog Boy”). I think he’s an international spy. I have everything written down in my Blue’s Clue’s Notebook in case you want to review it.
Thank you, Eve for that song. hehehe!
Bluesman, you’re quite welcome! <just kidding about your job>
Yes, he did, over all.Enjoyed what he was doing, the main part in my book.
Sealemon, I had no idea! We should get together sometime, I bet we’d find a lot to talk about.
And, no Eve, he only went over there on Jan.20th,'00. We got married in San Antonio.
You sing in my consciousness like a counterpoint to my life.

Thumbs? Nah, not thumbs. I use my…well, it’s actually classified, so I can’t really go into it.
The Muhtowah, or religious ‘enforcers’, have no official status, but they’re kind of tolerated, so as not to offend the clerical class, or get the government into trouble with the hard-core fundamentalist Moslems. Down here at Al Kharj, we don’t have to put up with them on base, and because we’re not allowed off-base, encounters are very rare. The guys in Riyadh and Jedda can go into town, and are ordered to steer clear of these guys. Basically, they’re thugs and bullies, usually not as educated as the average Saudi, and sometimes illiterate. Probably not actual criminals, as the crime rate here is almost to the vanishing point, but definitely outside the mainstream of Saudi society. And the locals don’t think much of 'em, either.
Well, I get outta here @ 2 June, but I’m stopping over in Bavaria for a week. Then, LOTS of quality time with the family, and some serious touring to see some relatives. So, figger late June, early July. I’ll know more as we get closer.
Uniform color is where it came from, as I think the blues look more professional than the Battle Dress Uniform. Although, as Lucretia can tell you, I like to keep that looking good, too. (She thinks I’m a fanatic about it - always polishing my boots, getting my shirts tailored, buying new ribbons, etc.) But a friend turned me on to blues about ten years ago, so it seemed the perfect handle. I’m a huge B. B. King fan, and I like Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and all the old Blues Masters. I like some contemporary blues, too, as long as it tastes like the old stuff: Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, Matt Murphy. Hey, I’d LOVE to hear your husband play sometime.
Hey, I’m supposed to do the spy thang in this here town! Guess I’ll have to terminate him with extreme prejudice…Thanks for the tip, Bluepony. And I was never here.

opus - at this point, it’s just a thought; I haven’t yet talked with the wife about it. But my thought is, late spring/early summer is the best season for having an outdoorsy sort of gathering - warm (but hopefully not oppressively hot) weather, daylight late into the evening, etc.
I’m about 25-30 min from the DC beltway at MD exit 11, and about 30 min south of Annapolis, so it’s not exactly close for anyone. Anyway, we can think about it.

Awww, Eve, now where were you when I was going loony in a bunker at Just Left of Hell and Nowhere, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during the war? Sure could’ve used that cake then!(sniff)
