I am opening a Pit thread for Lust4Life. I’m not thrilled to be called a “False Flag” poster, whatever the hell that is, or to be accused of giving misleading information in GQ. I have never, ever represented myself as British.
My posts in that thread:
#14: A link to a news item about an anti-monarchy protest before Diana’s death. #83: A note about my personal experience, and one story that clearly identified a British ex-pat in Canada. Rereading this post, it isn’t clear, but when I was said “I’ve heard it [slagging off the queen] done with absolutely no repercussions,” I was talking about conversations that took place in pubs, workplaces, and homes in Wales, not in Canada. I’ve also heard it here from people who were born and raised in Britain, though that’s less relevant to the thread under discussion. #96: Responding to Lust4Life’s accusations. #100: Responding to Lust4Life’s accusations.
And then the post with the link to this thread.
Lust4Life, multiple people in Britain and with British experience are telling you that your experience is not universal in your country. In short, you are wrong. Man up and admit it, and don’t accuse me of dishonesty just because you don’t like what I am saying.
Yeah. Well, I mean, the factual answer to that OP was given - the premise is false. To the extent that Brits do in fact disapprove of the monarchy and care enough to complain, we do complain about it. We just, for the most part, don’t give a fuck.
Doesn’t matter what you say now as anything you post is suspect to say the least.
And your motive for starting this Pit thread is also suspect.
A little bit too eager methinks.
Trying to practice some sort of juvenile recreational duelling perhaps ?
Like many nationalities the contented usually don’t bother expressing their views .
Why should they ?
Minorities that aren’t going to change anything, aren’t important to them.
And before you ask, I personally am someone who actually believes in putting my head above the parapet.
People have actually died as a result of B/S achieving mythic truth status as a result of poison sewers, who soon attract a following of ill informed idiots promoting their tripe in an attempt to look cool and edgy.
Those who have their own agenda, will turn out "rent a mob " style in an effort to convince those who are not familiar with either the subject or the locale that theirs is not only not at best a very, very unusual viewpoint in the general population but if not actually the dominant opinion at least one that is supposedly widespread and gaining supporters.
Yes if you walk into a Republican pub in Glasgow you’re going to be able to slag off the Queen.
Likewise Irish clubs, meeting centres/social clubs for some immigrant groups etc. and those who think themselves radicals, or extreme left wingers and so on, yes you can, and they probably do.
But to represent that as the normal face of British life is putting it mildly, nonsense.
There was a feeding frenzy at the time of Dianas death, whipped up by the media and followed by the silly and the stupid in much the same way as people get very emotional about X factor contestants, or the people on Big Brother, even though they’ve never met them, and are unlikely ever to meet them…
You could probably have got the same reaction to the death of a Boy Band member if the media had had a guilty conscience about being instrumental in their death.
To give an analogy, about very vocally active minoritys, its like saying that the normal opinions of Americans are like those of Phelps "Baptist "church.
And yes we’ll get trolls posting that they’ve personally seen effigies of the Queen being burnt before they dance around on the ashes, but they’re not even doing it because they hold any feelings on it one way or the other.
But because they enjoy causing trouble between other people so that they can then sit back and enjoy the fighting.
Hey Lust4Life, if you’re not going to accept someone’s claims about their personal biography at face value, you should at least do a search of their post history before calling them a liar. It took me about a minute or two to find this:
I don’t see what I got caught at. I posted facts and contextualized information based on my experience.
I’m not clear who “them” refers to, or how “the contented” are a nationality. In short, what are you on about here?
I have no idea what you are talking about here. Cromwell?
Reading comprehension problem. Nobody in that thread ever said it was “the normal face of British life”. What they said was that it was an acceptable facet of the normal face of British life, part of the range of opinions that people can and do hold. A minority, sure, but not confined to the extremes you paint.
Again, what are you on about? My only point about her death was to site an actual protest against the actual Queen Elizabeth II while the actual Diana was actually alive.
What deception? I’m sorry that you feel deceived, but I really don’t see where I represented myself as anything other than what I am. Show me where I made a false claim.
