Hell, I am a college physics graduate who taught high school physics for two years, and I barely know what it is. I know it’s a base that is used in making soap and hominy, and that’s the extent of my knowledge. I would say your average yokel wouldn’t even know that “lye” is a word let alone what it might mean.
A sad story…though hopefully her transplant works out and she can live a better life. I just don’t understand what would posses anyone to do something so horrendous to another human being, especially one they said they claimed to have loved at one time.
Can we agree that people who don’t know the words *lye *and *caustic *would have known the word chemical? At least as many people as know the word acid?
Given that news outfits are complaining that Google News and other aggregators are costing them revenue because people see the headline and don’t feel the need to click through, wouldn’t it be better business to just use “lye,” where people might have to click through to figure out what it is, while still retaining enough sensationalism (face transplant) to get their interest?
I know they’re not. That’s the point. A rifle is a rifle, a musket is a musket, and a BB gun is a BB gun. I was talking about how things are lumped together and called the wrong name.
I was hoping someone would note that whatever the chemical that was used, doing that to another person (or any living thing) is a vile, inhuman act. The perpetrator of such an act deserves the harshest punishment imaginable.
