Lye is not an acid, you Yahoo! hacks

Yeah, ain’t it! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find anything more than a red stain on the ground, whenever I go to make rabbit stew. Kinda sucks.

All your acid is belong to us?

Wrong. It’s “All your acid[del] is [/del] are belong to us”. Get your memes straight!

I abase myself before the wit and wisdom of the SDMB.

As well you should, my friend, as well you should…

Should have called it an antacid attack.

Why, wherever would we find sufficient pedantic douchbags?

Awww, dammit! I just stepped in another one. They’re all over the place, here!

According to Dopepedia, that’s called Bricking Your Boot’.

Has no one learned anything from watching Fight Club?!

In American usage, alkali and base are not synonymous (though lye is an alkali whichever way you define it).

Wikipedia does a good enough job to educate the readers as well as inform the writers. I don’t understand why news headlines are getting worse rather than better over the years.

Somebody deserves a good debasing…and uh…Lyer, Lyer, Pants on Fyer!

In Brit usage too. However, all alkalis are bases so if someone gets a faceful of lye then they’ve been hit by either an alkali or a base, take your pick; both are correct but one is less specific.

Oh, and a curse on the sick fuck who did this, as though it were needed.

Fascinating! I just checked the ultimate source of all things known (Wikipedia, of course). I always thought the two were synonymous. Learn something new everyday I guess.

Don’t talk about Fight Club!

Ok, what should I do next?

Depends. Was that the first or second time you didn’t talk about it?

I almost thought this was a joke thread. You read a story about a man dissolving his wife’s face with a chemical, you feel outraged enough to start a pit thread…about the name of the chemical.
