Is there an Islamic equivalent to “Thou shall not bear false witness” in the Koran or the Hadiths ?
I’m not Muslim, but I am under the impression that Muslims, Jews and Christians all accept the Ten Commandments as given to Moses.
Here are the 10 commandments as espoused in the Quran:
Yes. Testimony is given to Allah, as in ‘with Allah as my witness.’ Lying then becomes a matter between the liar and Allah on Judgement Day.
If you are looking for specific verses a Koran lookupcan help.
Cillasi, Koran only, no weight to hadith, belivers are a small but growing fraction of Muslims. Submitters, the authors of your cite, are a small mostly American fraction of those (who also belive in a numerical proof of the Koran.) I say this only as a footnote for your cite is most useful.
Cillasi, I think whomever compiled that list may be making an over-enthusiastic comparison between the Old Testament and the Qu’ran. I’m not disagreeing with it, but collecting a bunch of verses from the Qu’ran to compare it with the Ten Commandments is rather presumptuous; IMHO.
Although I am not an expert, I am a religious studies student specializing in Islam (albeit from a school without a full-time Islamic professor!), from what I understand, most revelations in the Qu’ran came from Muhammad in response to a certain situation. By taking a single verse or quote from particular chapter it would be easy to misinterpret the passage. I just like to warn people about our natural desire to make over-enthusiastic comparisons; especially when comparing different religions we are not familiar with
