CNN provoked a chorus of “tut-tuts” when it hired an actress as a newsreader. No sooner had the 24-hour Cable News Network announced the appointment of Andrea Thompson, a former star of the television cop drama NYPD Blue, than naked photographs of her turned up on the Internet. Now comes word that one of the veteran newsreaders Thompson will be replacing plans to pose for Playboy magazine herself. Wild-eyed Lynne Russell, a black belt in karate who spent 18 years at the network, says that “plans are in the works”, despite her somewhat advanced age of 54.

Not surprising. I remember a couple of years ago, she wrote the text that accompanied one of Playboy’s Newsstand Specials, “Body Language.” I may or may not have bought the issue strictly on the merits of the naked women inside, but I really wanted to read her remarks.
