I have a question about a sample in an electronic track that has been annoying me for several years. The track is ‘Hands of Destiny’ by Jimmy J & Cru-L-T, KFA 001; the sample is also in an older track by the same producers called ‘Take Me Away’, and in a whole lot of other things.
Probably the most popular song to use the sample is ‘Take Me Away’ by Mix Factory. All the tracks use different parts of the sample, and it’s all the same female voice. So, I think it’s probably from an 80s pop song, or maybe something older. (If it was, it could have been from any genre, really, maybe funk, soul, motown, or something like that. Maybe even gospel.)
The words aren’t very clear but I know this part for sure:
Take me away, (this is the only part in the Mix Factory song)
To the place I love to be, (it might be ‘long’ instead of love)
Give me the hand,
The hand of destiny, yeah
Then there’s some ‘ahh, away’ sort of things.
The track called ‘Hands of Destiny’ has four more lines which I can barely understand at all. It might end ‘take me to a place I have not been, we’re all in the hands of destiny’. I think the original might be called either ‘Take Me Away’ (there are a lot of songs called this, though) or ‘Hands of Destiny’.
Now, I really want to understand these last four lines. I’ve tried everything from editing the vocals out and slowing them down to searching the Web and newsgroups for someone asking a similar question. (The question has been asked, but never answered.) I even had a chance to ask the producer in person, right after he played the song. But some people ran up and hugged him, and that was it.
I’m not really looking for information on the electronic stuff that samples the original. I just want to know if anyone recognizes the lyrics and could tell me where the sample is from.
