My friends used to quote from MASH like some quote the bible. One of our running jokes was imitating Father Mulcahy saying “jocularity, jocularity”. But, did he himself ever say that that line or phrase???
Most recently, my wife and I were watching our MASH DVD. There is an episode entitled “Movie Night” where the gang sings and jokes around. They all take turns imitating the Father. I don’t recall seeing this episode from start to finish, although I recall their silly song about “Army Life”.
So, did Father Mulcahy claim this? Or, is it perhaps a common phrase preachers would preach, like “turn the other cheek”?
Margaret’s Marriage (U-820)
March 15, 1977
Written by Everett Greenbaum and Jim Fritzell
Directed by Gene Reynolds
Guest Stars: Beeson Carroll, Judy Farrell, Lynne Marie Stewart,
Ray Poss, Kellye Nakahara
Prompted by pressure from Frank, Hot Lips sets a date for marriage with
Lieutenant Colonel Donald Penobscott. When Donald (Beeson Carroll) arrives
in camp for the wedding, a bridal shower and bachelor party are given. When
he has passed out drunk, Hawkeye and B.J. place Donald in a body cast and
convince him that he has broken his leg. The ceremony is performed and
Donald and Hot Lips leave for a week’s honeymoon in Tokyo.
But wait, production numbers show that Episode 117 Movie Tonight(U-824) was shot after Episode 120 Margaret’s Marriage(U-820) so can I still have a cigar?
Did you know that Larry Linville (Frank Burns) had a recurring role on the show Paper Dolls which starred Jonathan Frakes (William Riker - ST:TNG) and Terry Farrell (Dax ST:DS9).
I wonder if he was even offered the part of Bobby Knight in ESPN’s movie, A Season on the Brink. Especially after Rogers got older and greyer, I’d find the resemblance between them to be striking. Better than Brian Dennehy.
