So, Mercedes has a relatively new radio commercial out there. In it, instead of extoling the virtues of their latest car, they ask, “Isn’t it also important how the car COMPANY has conducted itself, blah blah blah…”
Every time I hear it I usually think, yeah, lets look at your track record there, skippy:
Collaborated with Nazis
Conducted a “Merger of Equals” with Chrysler, then fired all their top people and replaced them with Mercedes execs. Also, robbed them of their huge cash reserves, introduced previous generation Merc models as new Chrysler models, and, worst of all, pioneered the “Dr Z” and “That thing got a Hemi?” commercials.
When all this finally succeeded in running the company into the ground, they took up and sold it to a private equity firm, spinning it like even with all their german engineering genius, they couldn’t figure out how the make the company profitable.
If I hit the powerball jackpot, buying a Mercedes would not be on my list of things to do, ever. But I might finance a parody ad, just out of spite.
