Is there a program that can scan and remove old launch daemons and other bits of old software no longer installed. I am running OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook.

I use something called CleanMyMac that I think does everything you want. It’s not cheap at $39, and honestly I never would have paid that kind of money for it on it’s own, but I got it as part of a bundle of a bunch of different Mac apps a while back. I have to say, it seems to work very well. I think there’s a demo so you can check it out and see if it does in fact do what you want.
