Mac OSX-Tiger/ Webcam question

Near as I can find, the only webcam that is supported by Mac OS-X Tiger release is the iSight cam, made specifically for Macintosh.

Is this possible? I was in Frye Electronics AND Best Buy AND Circuit City a weekend ago. Not a single webcam. Nothing. I’ve become a huge fan of Skype and a webcam would make talking to friends and family complete.

Anyone know of a webcam that is supported by Tiger, aside from the pricey iSight unit?

There are several third-party Mac drivers for webcams. Start here and here.

Logitech makes several Mac compatible web-cams. Most of the really cheap cameras aren’t around anymore. That market segment seems to have disappeared for some reason.

At $160, the iSight is around the middle of the market right now, neither really cheap nor really expensive. They’re well made and obviously well supported, are you really sure you need to get a different camera?

Do you have a digital camera? Whenever I need a webcam on my Mac, for iChat, I get out my digital camera or my videocam and use that. There’s a setting on the camera I change, and then just plug it into the Mac with the USB cable. It’s been a while, so I don’t remember specifics (and it may have last been done before I upgraded to Tiger). I do recall, however, my digital camera had instructions for use as a webcam.

Nonsuch, that’s perfect.I already owned an iBot webcam. I found a driver from ioxperts, and paid for it. Well worth the $ 19.99 for the driver, for now I can use the same iBot camera again. Thanks so much !!!
