MacDonald's takes wing(s)!

Winging this over to Cafe Society.

100 gazillion* dollars spent on advertising and still someone says “MacDonalds.” Heads are gonna roll…

  • not a real amount

I thought Mac-Donalds’s was urban slang for McDonald’s.

Yeah, they’ve gotten pricey lately, averaging probably around $2.50/lb around here. Long gone are the days of .99/lb wings (as they were maybe around 5 years ago or so.)

The McDonald’s chicken wings actually are not bad (they were here in Chicago earlier this year). They’re a heck of a lot better than you’d expect. You can read all about them and see some pictures at this local foodie board, where, on the whole, they got positive reviews. They are breaded, just so you know what to expect.

Regardless, I can’t see them lasting long. Who goes to McDonald’s for chicken?

And, man, do I wish there were bars that gave you free wings. That may have happened once upon a golden time, but not now. I think you can still find quarter wings specials, but typically it’s like $0.75-$1 a wing. (For example, look at the story of a wing crawl through Chicago where they say " 20 wings for $12 is a giant steal no matter which way you look at it.")

Ever heard of McNuggets? I guess that you could make the argument that those aren’t really chicken.

McNuggets were introduced when I worked at McDonald’s over 30 years ago. For the first couple of weeks we had to hand out free samples to customers in line. For a while they didn’t have the ready made packs of sauce and we had to fill these little plastic cups by hand which was a drag. Ah, memories.

Now you’ve done it. This thread was about McDonalds, and now you’ve made it about food.

Remember the Good and Tasty? And yet they ain’t goin’ broke, so they must be doin’ somthin’ right.

I thought it was “Mickey D’s, yo”. Perhaps I am a tad out of touch.

Well if they took the bones out they wouldn’t be crunchy, now would they?

Hot side stays hot. Cool side stays cool.

How did I forget those? And the chicken sandwich, of course. OK, who goes to McDonald’s for bone-on fried chicken?

Burger King is still selling those off-menu veggie burgers they started ten years ago… Maybe McDonald’s is just going for the folks that are really into chicken bones.

They don’t have McCrispy Chicken(fried chicken) on the menu in the US?

It is almost as popular as the burgers.

No bones about it.

I recently had turkey ribs. Delicious! Turkey wings are equally tasty. I’d pay a buck a wing for turkey wings.

Till I make you take me
On your mighty wings
Make you take me
On your mighty wings across the sky
Take me on your mighty wings
Take me on your mighty wings tonight

How could these possibly fail?

McDonald’s is big enough that they can weather some mighty big mistakes without going broke. Doesn’t mean they aren’t mistakes, though.

The same people who like McNuggets and chicken sandwiches, I suspect. I wonder if these wings will boost their chicken-related revenue much at all.

What’s up with those prices? 14 pounds for a sandwich?

Its not USD, each dollar is one sixth of a USD. Ronald is no stranger to chicken with bones.

The US has plenty of fast-food fried chicken, just mostly not from the same places as fast-food burgers. If an American wants fried chicken, we go to KFC or other places that specialize in it.
