Mrs. Beagledave and myself are BOTH shaking our heads then, because that is the funiest, most MAP thing I have EVER seen!!!
you could get a nice business going like that, like… Duct-tape pants
Very cool. I actually am impressed, since I’ve always wanted to make one. Now, though, I wonder if an iMac would be even better.
Don’t take this the wrong way but that’s… perverse, in its mundanity. (Says the dude with a wallet made entirely out of duct tape…
flup!
you can buy iMacQuariums (and other models) at http://www.macquarium.com
a bit pricey for more taste…

Have you seen the paper iMac/Mac Classic Christmas ornaments? They had them on the Macaddict website. You print them out, color them if you want, and then cut them out. A little glue (or tape) here and there, and presto! A miniature, 3-D iMac/Mac Classic paper replica.
One of the iMac ones comes with four different screens that you can stick in-- sorta like putting clothes on a paper doll. I was going to make a whole bunch and then string 'em up with fishing wire and make a MacMobile.
I’d be pretty pathetic if I did, huh?
Let’s not even talk about my Mac clock.
[/slightly OT hijack]
…how’d you do it?
My Mac clock? It’s pretty easy to make one, actually.
You’ll need a Apple logo decal. Most Macs come with them-- the older ones, such as my mom’s PowerMac 7200, came with two six-color logo decals. My iMac came with two monochromatic (white) ones. If you don’t have one, there are sellers on eBay who sell them for about $2/sheet of two.
You’ll need a cheesy wall clock. The battery-operated kind works best, but I have tried it with an electric clock, and it’s not much harder. Cheesy clocks come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. You can use whichever strikes your fancy. The only requirement is that the clear plastic cover has to be pop-off-able.
You’ll also need a piece of posterboard, some glue, a pencil, and a pair of scissors.
Carefully pop off the clock’s plastic cover. (I used a letter-opener to gently wedge mine off.) Remove the clock hands.
Peel the face off. (Most clock faces are lightly glued onto the clock frame.) Use the face as a template, and trace it onto the back of your posterboard. (You can skip this part if you don’t want to make a new face. I wanted to, since the face that came with my clock was hideous.) Be sure to include the hole for your clock hands. Cut out your new face, and cut out the hole for the hands.
Center your logo on the front of your new face. You’ll also need to cut a hole in the middle of the decal to accomodate the clock hands. (Having cut out the hole in the posterboard face in advance should help you with that.)
After that, it’s just a matter of reassembling the clock. Put your new face in the clock (you may have to glue it down, but I found I didn’t have to), put the hands back in, and then pop the cover back on.
There you go! 'Course, this will work for anything you want to make a clock out of-- pictures, team logos, whatever. If you decide to try this out, have fun! Let me know how it goes.
My clock.
Thanks, Audrey
Problem is, my mother has an ancient Mac that’s about to bite the dust, and I was wondering how to turn it into an aquarium for Gramma
Maybe you can make her a Macquarium and a clock to match? :o
I found the best instructions to BUILD a macquarium at http://come.to/macquarium
I want one! I wanna make one! I have an “old” (three years) Compaq monitor that’s on the verge of death…I know it’s constructed differently, but think I could do something like this with it?
I want I want I want…

Maybe…this dude has built aquaria out of lots of different things… (and look what he did with an old IBM PC heh heh) http://members.home.com/jlower/aquaria/aquarium.html
Dave, Dave, beloved of Mrs. Dave and hound Clancy, revered by Dopers everywhere, you’re exhibiting signs, y’know?
Consider this an intervention. You need to get away, friend. Sshhhh, now. What you need is a nice, peaceful retreat from it all with Mrs. Dave. Serenity, romance, the glories of nature, more romance, maybe a wandering giant inflatable penis…
Oh, that’s already done or been arranged.
Never mind. Cool site, though!
Patting Mrs. Dave and Clancy consolingly,
