Episiotomies were more common then. Shaving probably made sterilizing the area easier, and more effective. ??
I remember my mom telling me that the doctors knocked her out just enough where she was barely aware of what was going on, and according to her, didn’t even know I’d been born. She was hanging onto my foot and kept telling the docs “I haven’t had the baby yet! What are you talking about??”
I was born in 1958. Nobody ever tried to force me to become right-handed.
My lefty dad was born in 54 and learned how to throw a football right handed, but does everything else lefty - including throwing that football.
