First post-merger episode, John Slattery is directing.

I can’t even pretend to care about the Don/Sylvia storyline.

Went “Meh”. Office parts were fine, too much tedious Don/Sylvia. At least it seems to be over.

They should have called this episode “Don 1/2 Weeks”.

Not even after Sylvia ended things with Don? He clearly didn’t expect that from her, although I wondered what took her so long.

Just say it! Say you can’t believe it’s not butter!

And yes the Sylvia story was sucking. Glad they ended that.

I thought the whole episode was great.

Don was clearly done with Sylvia after she displayed her neediness, and thought of a way to get her out of his hair while making her think it was her idea.

Did the cuckolded cardiologist get a job in Milwaukee? So, maybe we’ll see the last of boring Sylvia? Probably without any payoff of Don getting caught out.

I was a little surprised that brownnoser Bob came through for Joan, and that her mom’s suggestion that Joan go for it actually seemed somewhat reasonable.

Well, that part made me glad it was over.

I guess the question of how Mrs Campbell spends her days has been answered.

Not. (Unless you mean this ironically.) He was mesmerized by her need and and that need was an invitation to let his Dark Side really come out. Didn’t you notice the utterly bereft look on his face when she ended it? Finally dominating an older woman, from a higher class, a doctor’s wife no less…it must have satisfied one of his deepest fantasies.

Holy God, he is one good-looking man.

Roger had the greatest scene he’s had in a long time, canning that guy at the beginning.

Is Joan going to get involved with Bob? Or DID he have an ulterior motives in helping her?

Loving how Pete’s life is falling apart. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

No, Sylvia said Minnesota, so that means Arnie got a job at the Mayo Clinic.

I know the stock answer to this is “Depends on the agreement” which none of us have seen, but I’d have guessed Pete would be more sheltered from being canned as a partner, albeit a junior partner. Don demanded Lane’s resignation due to blatant theft but I’d have thought Pete would be the last Accounts guy standing if need be (well, aside from Roger and however Burt is classified these days). Goes without saying that Ted and [other head guy] have their stake as well but you know what I mean. Pete was acting as though the axe was dangling right over him.

Cosgrove is off in Detroit. Wonder if that’s a “permanent” move. They mentioned that Chevy would expect them to maintain an office there.

Wins thread in first round.

Assorted:

Don’s change from “Do what I say, NOW!” dominator to pleading came about like a cloudburst (speaking of, I loved his reaction to Ted flying in the storm).
I think Sylvia is the only person Don thinks really needs him (outside of the agency). Megan has her career, the kids have their stepfather and their mother, and… there’s nobody else really.

Does Ted Chaough remind anybody else of a young Dick Van Dyke?

I’m trying to remember the Burt plotline from before. Did anybody else have trouble calling that one up?

I did not know that about Napoleon III and the popularization of margarine, but the internet confirms it.

Joan’s now rich in her own right, so she no longer has to date to impress. She deserves a toyboy.
Do you think her mom has any idea what she did to make partner?

I do so like that sound of lead characters smashing head first into a wall.

Donny boy flying off the rails…I smell a nasty ending

Peter…creepy even when crashing…

Sylvia ended it because Don took her book, lol

So I guess when they cleared the clouds. Ted saw the light…it was so bright he had to put on shades

and the significance of room 503?

I can’t remember Burt ever being mentioned before. I assumed Roger knew/fired him prior to Season One.

More Jerry van Dyke.

And I thought Joan might be pregnant again, and was wondering who?

I loved how Ted got back at Don for drinking him under the table. And I wonder if there is going to be an explosion as the new guys start wondering about the crap the old guys get away with.

Even the difference between Stan & Ginsberg versus the two Chaough creative guys was good for a laugh.

We saw Burt fired at the beginning of season 2 or 3(?) He was the first cut when the Brits bought out the old Sterling/Cooper.

People on the board were mad because the teaser said “someone is getting fired” and everyone was all “THAT guy? Really? Who cares.”

EvenSven and ThelmaLou, my wife and I are debating about Don’s motives in essentially keeping that lady locked in a hotel room (sadly a propos of the current news cycle)…so far, you Dopers have one vote for “disgusted by her neediness, get rid of her by giving her what she wants but to an extreme”, and one for “rather sadistically enjoy keeping her for his own pleasure, surprised when she decides to call it quits.”
More Doper input would be appreciated!
