That dumb shit lost the best paying, easiest job he’s likely to ever have. All he had to do was act half-assed adult, but that was beyond him.
Hope that’s better…
He’ll be okay. I’m sure that he will do a stint as a commentator at Fox News or OANN and write a book of unsubstantiated conspiracies that will get floated around QAnon circles, maybe a gig pimping for the NRA at CPAC. A sharp guy like that with zero scruples is never going to want for cocaine and orgies…

This is one of those things where it’s hard to tell whether Republicans or Democrats are the ones sighing harder in relief.
Many, many people fail to do this and get by just fine. The last president has failed to do that for much of his life and it never cost him a damn thing. I suspect Cawthorn is sitting at home crying, wondering why the older kids got to play but he got kicked off the team for following the same rules.
Except for when he’s a sitting congressman, apparently.
The guy is pretty skeevy and doesn’t seem to believe that laws apply to him.
A list of his dumbassery/criminal actions, including:
Glorifying nazis, lying about why he was rejected from the naval academy, rape, inciting insurrection, attempting to bring a firearm onto a plane, pro-Russian ideologies, multiple instances of speeding and driving with a revoked license, attempting to bring another firearm onto a plane, and insider trading for the Let’s Go Brandon cryptocurrency scheme.
Add to that his claims of attending cocaine parties, his sex tape, and a weird relationship with his cousin, all while professing to be a “traditional christian”, and you have a guy who’s never really heard the word No. Until today.
I think the best news out of all of this is that Madison Cawthorn was Trump backed and lost.
Trump doubled down on his support for Cawthorn earlier this week, asking voters to give the firebrand freshman, who is the youngest member of the US House, “a second chance.”
Cawthorn recently sparked uproar in the Republican Party after claiming on a podcast that he had been invited to an orgy in Washington and had personally seen leaders in the efforts to curb drug addiction doing cocaine – one incident in a string of recent controversies surrounding Cawthorn that included calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “thug” and the Ukrainian government “incredibly evil.”
I’ll be honest, my only awareness of this lying slimeball was John Oliver.
Fox News seems to like blonde talking heads, so perhaps that’s where he ends up. Though I think he may be too dumb even for them.
The OP was right in that people tend to vote for incumbents, so he could have remained in his Congressional seat for decades had he managed not to alienate other Republican elected officials and the voters of his district. In fact, he’s young enough that he could have set a new record for seniority.
And is it wrong that I’m feeling a bit of schadenfreude about his election loss?
Another Trump backed nutjob, Janice McGeachin, lost in the primaries for ID guv.
Supposedly they offered but I guess Nancy Pelosi isn’t his type.
Seriously, this guy reminds me of the kid in school who would lie about all of the supercars he owned, his multiple girlfriends that were all ‘out of state’, and his super-secret nuclear fusion reactor that was going to win the science fair. It’s so difficult to find a verifiable truth in anything that he says that it is literally a reasonable assumption that anything he says is untrue. He’s been caught in so many lies that not only would people from the village not believe his wolf story, they’d probably just smack him for opening his fool mouth again.

“I have the hottest girlfriend and I’m taking her to prom next week. She’s from Russia and is so hot! You guys will see. You’ll be jealous af…”
A week later, at prom:
“Uh… dude. That’s not a Russian exchange student. That’s just your mom.”
“No it’s not!!! Shut up!! NO IT’S NOT!!!”
I see what you did there.
For the right, Cawthorn’s only mistake was getting elected. If he were a talking head or an online loudmouth - which he will be - nobody would say a word against him. Only because the shifting congressional districts in NC meant that he might be more vulnerable in November than someone vanilla did they take action. Anybody who thinks this move had anything to do with morality or the public good is delusional.
Whatever the reason, I am not sorry to see him go.
From the very first time I heard the guy’s name, I couldn’t get badly-written, masochistic romance novel villains out of my head.
Ultimately it wasn’t the lies, conspiracy theories and scandals that did him in – MTG and Boebert are getting by just fine in their districts. He made the cardinal mistake of a first-term Congressman: he neglected his district. He thought he was a big enough media figure that he didn’t need to waste his time attending Veteran’s Day parades and Miss Cherokee County coronations with those dumb hicks back home. His constituent services and communications were subpar. He didn’t care to learn about or try to help with the specific concerns of his district. And then he tried to flee his district when a new Congressional map created a more favorable district next door (he had to return when that map was invalidated by the courts).
Pissing off every establishment Republican (leading to a ton of money being showered on his opponent) didn’t help, but he created the opening for a challenger to exploit.
Sadly, the lesson to be taken from this is that it’s perfectly OK to be a lying sack of shit who thinks he’s above the law, but don’t piss off the most powerful people in your state.
He still won every county in his district, save the 2 most populous ones plus one smaller one, which are contiguous with each other - a difference of only about 1,300 votes.
Just imagine, there are thousands of people who are disappointed today that Madison Cawthorn isn’t going to be their Representative in Congress next year. It boggles the mind.
I think the naked, dude on dude, horseplay tape may have also been a factor.
Like… a factor 100 times bigger than the thing you mentioned.
I’m betting he’s wishing he went to that orgy after all right about now.
Come on, what’s more important to voters, subpar constituent services or naked head-humping videos?
Never mind, don’t answer that.
