Is he a junior?
Doesn’t look like it; Wikipedia says that his father’s name is Roger.
Some people just go by their middle names, even if they aren’t a “Junior.” What isn’t clear to me is whether he’s always gone by Madison, or if he adopted using his middle name when he entered politics.
Cawthorn could always monetize Substack, as many fellow loons have already done. Books and paid speeches offer other sources of income.
He could be a video party clown. Seems to be working for Rudy.

I don’t know. The market’s pretty saturated with right wing idiots.
You would think but there seems to be an insatiable thirst for conservative pundits, the wackier the better. And while Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham have hung around like leeches (apologies to Hirudinea and Cary Grant) most of them seem to have a pretty limited lifespan before they either grow some semblance of a conscience or burn out and fade away. Cawthorn can write a book, do a speaking tour where he gets protested or banned from college campuses where students reject openly fascist views, complain mightily to CPAC crowds about how he has been so, so wronged, and get a nice little gig making nonsense commentary for Fuchs News (if he can rein in the openly fascist worship a bit) or OANN (if he wants to go full-on Nazi cosplay). Dude has a good gig as long as he can just manage his pathological lying tendencies to only slander opponents. But he probably can’t, and sooner or later he’ll smear the wrong conservative pundit, and then be a neofascist has-been like so many Trumpist idolators before him.
Stranger

Glorifying nazis, lying about why he was rejected from the naval academy, rape, inciting insurrection, attempting to bring a firearm onto a plane, pro-Russian ideologies, multiple instances of speeding and driving with a revoked license, attempting to bring another firearm onto a plane, and insider trading for the Let’s Go Brandon cryptocurrency scheme.
He didn’t just try to bring a gun on a plane, he tried to bring a LOADED gun on a plane. And he tried to bring a knife onto school properly (several times). And don’t forget the time he wore a shooting shirt with matching gloves to an insurrection! And that was all fine with his Republican colleagues. They were okay with him until he spilled the beans on the cocaine orgies.

He could be a video party clown. Seems to be working for Rudy.
He’d have to develop a different schtick than the melting hair dye – he doesn’t need any.

Wait, isn’t eyepatch guy the Seal with a decent sense of humor?
He seems like a pretty good guy, especially compare to Cawthorn.
He’s a bonafide prick with some charm.

Mark Hamill is a national treasure.
He is kind of the original anti-Trump, fighting against the descent into the Dark Side:
If only Don Jr. or (ugh) Eric had the balls to stand up to their mouth-breathing father. I don’t know; maybe Bannon will pick up the lightsaber?
Strangert
My question is, would the same forces that lost him the primary also limit his speechifying opportunities to at least some extent? I’m not sure; I guess it depends on the venue and to what extent the inmates are running the asylum there.

I heard one of his constituents refer to him as “Heil on Wheels”.
That’s funny.

would the same forces that lost him the primary also limit his speechifying opportunities to at least some extent?
The hammer really went down on him in NC for failing to behave as expected of someone in his station, but he’ll have a home with the hardcore MAGAts and the conspiracy podcasters for a while.
See this recent thread for an adjacent discussion. It’s not precisely about why some folks go by their middle name, but it’s close enough:
…and use their full middle name. T. Boone Pickens is one that immediately comes to mind. Why? I get that they may not like their first name, simply prefer their middle name, or use it to avoid confusion with someone else, etc., but why not simply just use the middle name and completely exclude the first? Just curious as to the decision-making behind this, because it seems like a pretty major thing to do. Also, I believe I’ve only ever seen men do this. Are there examples of women that do?

Dude has a good gig as long as he can just manage his pathological lying tendencies to only slander opponents. But he probably can’t, and sooner or later he’ll smear the wrong conservative pundit, and then be a neofascist has-been like so many Trumpist idolators before him.
He might as well burn any remaining bridges now and write the tell-all book, naming names on the cocaine orgy thingy.

Chris Cooper (who is a political science professor at Western Carolina) breaks down the loss:
For all of the scandals, the one that did Cawthorn in was leaving the district & coming back. When he left, Edwards, Burril, Woodhouse & O’Connell weren’t in this race. If he didn’t leave, it’s unlikely they would have gotten in. And he likely would weathered the storm.
Also, one hard-to-assess thing in this state is there are a lot of unaffiliated voters, who can pick whatever primary ballot they want. Those folks are hard to poll.
That was a good Twitter thread. I was also struck by this that Cooper says later…
4. Cawthorn ran a national campaign for a district office. He didn’t do traditional ad buys on WLOS & other local outlets. He closed district offices during the campaign & he didn’t show up for debates in the last stretch. His messaging was about $, not votes.
Seems like a stunningly stupid campaign strategy.

Seems like a stunningly stupid campaign strategy.
There are rumors going about that he didn’t want to win, so if that’s really true, it turned out to be effective.
I wonder what more perfect job he was giving it up for.
Media loudmouth, I’d guess.
Though if you are going to pull a Palin, you should just resign rather than get beat. Losing doesn’t help the brand, and I haven’t heard him yelling about fraud.
In my dark conspiracy-mongering moments, I wonder if someone from the party didn’t give him a call Tuesday as the votes were coming in to remind him that the wingnut welfare dole is only allocated to those who play ball, and point out that some as young and obviously talented as him shouldn’t through their future away on one fit of pique.
Because I was really expecting the allegations of voter fraud to come thick and fast when I heard the results.
If he does have anything to back up the cocaine orgies story, it’s bound to come out now.
