Recently a local radio station has started playing Madonna’s Love Profusion. I was intrigued why I instantly hated the song with a passion and thought I may ask Dopers if they knew how this works. You know, you hear something and it goes straight on to your list of worst ever songs. Well in the interests of quoting the song I decided to look up the lyrics and discovered:
American Life
Do I have to change my name?
Will it get me far?
Should I lose some weight?
Am I gonna be a star?
Hollywood
Music stations always play the same songs
I’m bored with the concept of right and wrong
Love Profusion
There are too many questions
There is not one solution
There is no resurrection
There is so much confusion
And the love profusion
You make me feel
You make me know
And the love vibration
You make me feel
You make it shine
And I know I can feel bad
When I get in a bad mood
And the world can look so sad
Only you make me feel good
Nobody Knows Me
I’m not that kind of guy
Sometimes I feel shy
I think I can fly
Closer to the sky
No one’s telling you how to live your life
But it’s a setup until you’re fed up
Nothing Fails
When I get lost in space
I can return to this place
'Cause, you’re the one
Intervention
I got to save my baby
Because he makes me cry
I got to make him happy
I got to teach him how to fly
Mother And Father
My mother died when I was five
And all I did was sit and cry
I cried and cried and cried all day
Until the neighbors went away
The twelve year-old that is writing her lyrics will be lucky to keep the job. All these on one CD - incredible.
you know she’s writing children’s books, right? she’s obviously changed her marketing direction. i like the first one. haven’t heard the rest, though.
Agreed entirely…
Music
Music makes the people come together
Music makes the bourgeoisie and the rebel
Don’t think of yesterday
And I don’t look at the clock
I like to boogie-woogie, uh, uh
It’s like riding on the wind
And it never goes away
Touches everything I’m in
Got to have it everyday
Oh, so “Love Profusion” is the song in that commercial I’ve been seeing, is it? I thought it sounded pretty. Madonna only bothers me when she tries to get heavy and deliver important messages about big issues – or when she still tries to shock even though that’s really not her strong suit anymore. If she’s sticking to dance tracks or cute pop, that works for me.
You just know you were all waiting with baited breath for me to show up.
Oh yes you were, you can’t deny it.
The consensus among fans is that American Life is the most lyrically weak album Madonna’s done since Like A Virgin. But hey, (to whip out a few cliches), not every egg can be golden, and Madonna never claimed to be Shakespeare. If I want challenging lyrics I’ll listen to a Sondheim musical or Tori Amos. Madonna writes dance music. Expecting her to make music you’ll enjoy 100% of the time is silly, and expecting her to be the Proust of the music industry is also silly.

I love Madge, but doing a tour sponsored by Clear Channel negates everything at this point.
I don’t see how using Clear Channel as a sponsor is any different from Titney using Pepsi (or any other company for that matter). I hate CC and only listen to Standard radio, personally. That they are sponsoring her means nothing to me other than the fact that they are a huge, faceless corporation who have the bucks to bring M to the Air Canada Centre (where I will be on July 18th).
It’s kind of ironic they are the Daddy Warbucks behind the tour, since all the fans have been blaming them for AL’s pathetic airplay. Since they ignore all listener requests, none of the speed-dial happy fans who called their local CC affiliate were able to get them to play songs like American Life or Hollywood.
