You think they don’t find Nicole Kidman in the audience at the Oscars when Tom Cruise and/or Penelope Cruz are about to take the stage?
That’s just basic good TV directing. Whether or not there’s going to be a lesbian kiss.
The VMAs are staged, MTV has said so before, in the VMAs behind the curtains special. In fact, they have said that sometimes when things don’t go out as planned, they can cut and start the scene again… one, two, three times, as many times needed to get it just right.

It was on the news last night that Christina wants MTV to edit the clip. She wants her kiss to get more attention then it has.
MTV said no.
They reran the VMAs last night and they had done a little editing. They cut the camera shot of Mary J Blige looking disgusted.
