If only a target is revealed, but not a result, then what do we gain? No information from a dead investigator.
But, it does have the advantage of making false claims harder. And after Hal utterly fooled me last game, I’m all in favor of that. So, yes, I think I am in favor of every player naming their putative target from the previous Night.
Yeah, somewhat, but I’ll keep my vote there for a while, to see what the official vote looks like.
And now I remember why I forgot the idea again. What about just revealing targets then? That would give nothing away and make it harder for scum to lie…
However even this is flawed (kinda)… Suppose a power role is forced to claim (or be lynched)… if a doc would protect him, his action would be known… Of course, if ever confronted, it could be explained… Hmm…
Unless someone can see flaws in that idea, I’d be willing to give it a try this game.
The obvious assumption would be that everybody on a dead investigators list would be Town. I’ve never played a (town) investigator, how frequently is it necessary to hide the fact that you’ve found scum? Not very, I should think.
Argh, now you all point it out that votes stay until removed instead of the normal voting. I did read the rules, but it already slipped my mind. Not a good thing to do in a Mafia game!
Further musings on Alpha/Beta: since in the color Deadites are possessed people*, it’s not unlikely they have that status as well. But even if the Deadites wouldn’t lie, not sure how that helps us.
On re-reading the rules: I think any mass claim is dangerous since the Deadites can communicate Day and Night off board, so can manipulate it easy.
I see your “Very risky!” and “Townies need not and should not lie” and raise you the following scenario:
Deadites fail to kill and anyone who targeted their target is possibly the Doctor!
Not very likely (1/27 * 1/27 for Night 1), but I think it’s worse than what you accused Rapier42 off, so to get my first vote in: Vote Pleonast
Real night in the Netherlands now, signing off for now.
*) Based on my read of the Evil Dead plot, haven’t seen it.
I have played as a town investigator (more than once) and sometimes it is in the town’s best interest not to reveal scum right away.
The investigator is more valueable as a confirmation tool than he is as a scum hunter. Town should be capable of hunting scum all on their own, but it is hard to confirm anyone else as 100% town without a cop. So if a cop hits scum on Day 1 or 2, it might be beneficial to keep quiet until Day 3 or 4 so he can out several townies in the process.
What Naf said. And even though it is somewhat counter intuitive to some extent an Investigative role is hugely valuable if she/he can latch onto town that last a long time as opposed to identifying scum. And I’ve seen (anecdotally) plenty of games where the Investigative role doesn’t pop in and declare the second they find scum. We’ve had the random vote discussion and the hold no grudge speech. Is it time for lynch the lurker or have we graduated from that class?
And I know a good many of you so I will say this straight up. I am typically a night, CST, and weekend poster. However, I’ve got our company’s major fundraising dinner tonight, peekkid#4 piano recital tomorrow night and a whole slew of stuff this weekend. I’ll still check in and post but not as prolifically as usual. No metagame, please.
The other reason a cop shouldn’t claim day two that he found scum night 1 is the possibility of paranoia. (Paranoid cops always get a result of guilty). Giving yourself a few nights lets you determine your sanity.
