Mafia - Game in progress [Edited title]

The enemy scum is down.

Yes. if you need me I’ll play ( I didn’t realize I wasn’t clear)

Sorry, ya’ll - my daughter has the flu, and I’ve been a little occupied with the coughing and the misery. I will have downtime tonight sufficient to get everything up and running.

UBER :distinguished: :stuck_out_tongue:

Story, don’t worry about it. Just PM me the teams list and I’ll take care of everything.

(We need an  smiley here!)

I hope I can join, I have been going through withdrawal lol

The Rules

Below you will find the basic rules of the game. Some are familiar, and some represent modest departures from usual practice; please read them carefully, and feel free to ask if anything is unclear.

Please note that in addition to the game rules below, all participants are expected to follow the rules of the Straight Dope Message Board, and the Game Room in particular.

  1. The Set-Up
This is, generally speaking, a closed set-up. It is not a no vanilla setup nor a setup involving only one or two vanillas. In fact, the design is – particularly compared to many of our recent games and especially compared to some past Evil Dead games – extremely straightforward. I know some folks were hoping for a more elaborate setup, but given the number of relatively new players this seemed like a better choice.

You may expect the Town to have access to an investigator, doctor, vigilante, and Masons; you may expect the Scum to have access to a Godfather, role blocker, and investigator. Other Town and Scum roles may (or may not) be included.

You may expect at least one third party role. Importantly: Any and all third party elements in this game will have exclusive win conditions – that is, while they may be able to win alongside one another (if more than one exists), if a third party wins, then all Town and Scum players lose.

Town Players will be identified in blue, and all have the following win condition:
“You win when all Scum are dead, if and only if no third party win condition triggers before or simultaneously with yours.”

Scum Players will be identified in red, and all have the following win condition:
“You win when the number of Scum players is greater than or equal to the total number of living non-Scum players, if and only if no third party win condition triggers before or simultaneously with yours.”

Third Party Players will be identified in purple; their win conditions will be known only to the player(s) who have them. The game has been designed such that no Third-Party win condition can be achieved prior to Day Five.

  1. Posting
For this game, Night time strategy talk in the main thread is not permitted. Similarly, Day time strategy talk in off-board locations, including Scum boards, is not permitted.

Apart from this, there are no post restrictions. As long as you are alive, you may post whatever you like, wherever you like, whenever you like (subject to the caveat that began this section). You may quote your role PM, and any PM sent to you by the moderators. If someone claims a post restriction of any kind, they are lying; lynch them.

PLEASE NOTE: You are also permitted to edit your posts, within the boundaries of the board’s time limitations. Other players may frown upon a choice to do so, but the Moderator will not intervene in any case of post editing.

  1. Recruitment
There may be methods by which the alignment of certain players may change. However, all alignment changes in this game will be strictly voluntary; no player will ever be forced to change alignment under any circumstances.

  2. Day/Night Cycle
In most cases, a Day will last five real-life days (beginning on Saturday afternoons and ending on Thursday afternoon), and the Night will last two real-life days. There is no in-game method of extending or shortening any Day or Night. Days or Nights may be extended or shortened at the discretion of the moderator to account for out-of-game or meta-game situations (holidays, board outages, etc).

  3. Voting and the Lynch
Voting will be done using blue text. Bold-facing and separating onto an individual line are preferred for moderator convenience, but not required. Only votes in blue will count. It is permitted to vote “no lynch” should that appear to be the best plan. Players may have any number of active votes at any time (you’re welcome, Pleo).

Unvoting will use red text.

The player with the highest number of votes at the lynch deadline will be lynched (if “no lynch” has received more votes than any player, no lynch will occur). In the event of a tie, the result will be no lynch.

  1. Powers
There are many Night powers, but no Day powers. All powers resolve at Dawn, according to a pre-established order of events. If you anticipate absence during a given Day or Night, it is permitted to submit actions in advance, which may be changed at any time prior to the deadline.

  2. Participation
There will be no hard and fast rules regarding participation, except this one: please participate. The moderators will determine the adequacy of each player’s participation in a context-sensitive fashion, and will issue warnings, prompts, and removals as necessary. All discussion about a player’s participation level will take place in private; the moderators will not discuss participation, prods, or potential modkills in the game thread under any circumstances.

Broadly speaking, all moderator action, notably modkill, is subject to the discretion of the moderators. NOTE: There will be no voting requirement whatsoever. As long as you’re posting, you don’t have to vote at all, ever, as far as the moderators are concerned.

In re: timing. I am going to try to get role PMs out on the soon side. We will start Day One on Saturday (tomorrow) afternoon, around 2:00PM Eastern, in order to start the game on what will be the regular Saturday-Thursday schedule.

Thank dear sweet motherloving Jebus.

I am whole again.
Oh look, I messed up the tags.

Hello little edit button. You’re my dearest friend in the whole wide world.

What’s that? Kill them all? Run away and make sweet love to you? Yes edit button. I WILL DO THY BIDDING.

Am I not allowed to play?

Or wasn’t I clear enough in my previous post?

Sorry, Chucara - as I always do, I conflated your name with Chronos’. This is probably not the last time this will happen. You are player #26. At this point, though, sign-ups are closed unless we add five or six more.

Just a reminder that I’m almost never online on the weekends, so don’t expect posts from me until Monday morning (California time).

And a big YAY! for multi-votes.

Also, I still need about 6 players for my super-duper Apocalyptic Mafia over on Idle’s board. So if you didn’t get into this game, or think you can handle a complex game at the same time as this one, please sign up.

It’s been a while since I’ve played and maybe this is the standard nowadays, but can you clarify this for me? If I have 10 active votes do they all count towards vote totals?

Ahh. Roger that. Thank you kindly, kind Sir.

Off-topic: anybody else having trouble on Idlemafia? I can’t log in there, or at Kid’s spoiler board. Every log in attempt kicks me back to the log in page, with no indication of a missing or wrong field.

I haven’t had any problem, but I stay logged on.

I’m logged in at idlemafia right now, with no issues…

I tried an intentionally wrong password, and it correctly reports “invalid password/username combo” or whatever. Using my correct password, it takes me back to the index page as if it was a real log-in, but I’m still a “guest” and not logged in.

Weird.

Since I currently have some admin powers over there, I looked at your account. It says you logged in last at 11:58 (not sure what time zone). The only think unusual is that your account is not “activated”. I think that involves confirming your email. But you obviously were posting fine before, so I don’t think that’s the problem.

Otherwise, check that cookies, scripts, etc are allowed for the site.
