I’m going to have to go right down to the wire with the promotion/demotion order. My only motivation is keeping Chronos out of the engineer slot tonight and the doctor slot tomorrow. I have no great suspicion against anyone else who might be affected, except as described below.

Here is what I intend to do.

If I am to be spaced:
Promote Chronos.

As I mentioned before, this would result in the following hierarchy for the evening:
Captain ColdPhoenix
XO Ichini Sanshigo
Security Chronos
Engineer Inner Stickler
Doctor Cookies

If no one is spaced, then if I promote Chronos, we wind up with this:

XO Normal Phase
Security Ichini Sanshigo

Doctor Inner Stickler

Not acceptable to me. If I do nothing, it would be:
Captain ColdPhoenix
XO Normal Phase

Okay for tonight, but Chronos is doctor again tomorrow unless another officer is killed. There’s decent odds of that even if Chronos is Scum (depending who else is Scum with him), so this may be acceptable.

If I demote Chronos, we get:

Security Ichini Sanshigo
Engineer Inner Stickler
Doctor Cookies

In this case, the Scum have to kill an officer to get Chronos back into the Doctor position – but as I said, they are likely to do that anyway, so it would reveal little. All in all I think if no one is to be lynched I will do nothing. Force the Scum to act against their own probable best interests if they want Chronos to keep his position as Doctor instead of Cookies moving up (whether that’s because he is Scum or because they want to take advantage of my suspicion to make him look bad).

As for suspicions regarding other people who might be affected. I have a vote in against ColdPhoenix, but he can’t do anything without Ichini Sanshigo’s help in one scenario, and I have no suspicions against him. In the other, Chronos could be Security, but while I have suspicions against both halves of the equation there, I think I am not right about both of them, since ColdPhoenix accused Chronos quite early on. So that’s also OK. And I have no qualms about Cookies at the moment, either.

That leaves Inner Stickler. I’m a little uneasy about Chronos leaving him out of his discussions of possible officer examinations. But I can’t keep them both out of sensitive positions, so I’ll have to hope it’s not indicative of anything in particular.

Okay. Scuba Ben, you’re in little danger – it appears it’s either going to be me or no-one. Everyone has placed at least one substantive vote, and there is little room left for swings. Now you can decide whether you prefer me dead, or if you’d rather stick to your own word about unvoting those who expressed a preference for shifting Chronos around rather than arresting him. We’ve gotten just about as much information as it’s possible to get, and it’s just a matter of whether you really think I’m Scum or not. Up to you.

I desperately want to unvote you as I don’t think you’re Scum, and because of my referred-to reason. But given (a) my Mafiascum history and (b) the vote count, I’m forced to decide between lynching you and no-lynch.

Here on Day 1, we need information. Information. Information! And it seems to me that the only way to get info is to lynch somebody. I’d rather lynch you than lynch myself.

So: I have no idea who may be Scum. I only know I’m not Scum, and I’m not getting any better at finding Scum.

Sorry Normal Phase, but it looks like you get lynched. Please suggest some improvements to my game play and Scum hunting on your way out, mmm?

Normal Phase brings up a good point. Would Engineer Inner Stickler have made for a good exam candidate?

Structurally, it seems to me we need a trusted person as Doctor – which means we need the higher officers to be generally considered Loyal.

As Doctor, you mean? No, the order is already in, and as I understand it, it can’t be changed after it’s made, even if the Doctor himself is changed. In any case the promotion doesn’t take effect until after the spacing; and it’s the spacing that will put you into the Doctor position, not me switching Chronos and Inner Stickler around.

ABWOP: I think, Cookies, that Chronos has used the Doc’s exam Day power already. But in case I’m wrong, feel free to examine someone. I suggest a choice between me and Cold Phoenix as the other top vote-getters.
