I haven’t ordered an arrest and Chronos himself suggested it… But I guess from a town perspective, it’s better to vote than not.
Tempting as that offer is I’m not going to go for it. The reason being that it’s then setting a precident for people to vote everyone and then only remove the votes if people promise not to vote for them. I know that isn’t how it is in this case (you only suggested that as I’ve indicated that I don’t think you’re scum) but I’d still rather not get involved. If I did then other people would start voting you just to get their vote from you removed and it then means people are voting to keep themselves in and not to get scum out.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that you’ve voted for the 2 people who voted for you…
Excluding Scuba_Ben of course.
If I’ve counted correctly it looks like Normal Phase is the vote leader with 5, followed by myself and Scuba with 4. Unless there are a few more votes (or someone is arrested) then there’ll be no lynch.
Even if I were to order an arrest, is Ichini there to throw t hem in the brig?
Daycycle ends in about 4 hours 40 minutes (noon PT, 2PM board time), and we still have some people who haven’t voted.
I would unvote Normal Phase as the XO, because he supported promoting / demoting Chronos instead of arresting him – but ColdPhoenix’s unofficial count puts Normal Phase in the lead. So I have to leave my vote on him out of self defense.
My apologies again…it’s simply been a couple of days filled with unexpected things popping up. But hey, for the next 90 minutes I’ll be in our company’s quarterly update teleconference. Perfect for getting some reading done!
Hal, I would appreciate your assessments of the three vote leaders. Even though I’m one of them and would prefer to not be lynched for an experimental mistake.
So, Normal_Phase, if I’m understanding you correctly, you think that it’s Scummy to make mistakes, unless they’re big mistakes? Hal’s misunderstandings of the rules were so great that they couldn’t possibly be Scum, but ColdPhoenix’s misunderstanding of the rules was probably because he’s Scum, and my hurried decision of whom to examine was probably because I’m Scum? If it’s possible for Scum to make mistakes (which of course it is), then it’s also possible for Town to make mistakes, and those mistakes can be big or small on either side.
And even in retrospect, getting my examination order in early was not a mistake. In order for the brig option to be on the table (which is not my decision, so it was proper for me to not take it off the table), there needed to be time for folks to discuss it, then for the Captain to order it, then for the Security Officer to execute it. That’s not the sort of thing that should be left to the very end of the Day, especially if I didn’t know whether the relevant players would be online at the end of the Day.
Vote DarthSensitive for his vote on ScubaBen re assumptions about brigged individuals being unable to use their powers. It certainly seemes like a reasonable assumption to me; if there were no restrictions on a person who was brigged, what would be the point of brigging them?
Order Chronos’ arrest to protect him? I think it’s a good idea actually, since I was pretty suspicious of the doc for his earlier digging about secret power roles. I figured that a loyal doc would need not concern himself with those roles, trusting secret powers to be able to take care of themselves. A scum doc would of course want to try to gather hints so he’d know who to investigate/space. That line seems to have been (thankfully) dropped, though.
But I still think jailing Chronos would be a good idea (either for his protection or for ours).
Actually, I voted for him because he made the insinuation about brigged scum not being able to discuss. The idea that people can’t use powers in the brig is a good one, as it’s in the rules and all. That they can’ talk is misinformation, as was confirmed by Scuba and Normal. That explicitly rules out my ideas (ranked last) that it was a slip of some sort, and the fact that he’s gone about correcting what he said helps to assuage my fears that it was misinformation. It was a mistake, but not one that he needs to be lynched for.
Normal Phase - Never played here before, but obviously an experienced, competent player. Quick to pick up on mistakes/misunderstandings, which can be equally useful for town looking for scum slips and for scum looking for frame-up opportunities. Very verbose players are often hard to get a read on – are they saying a lot because they have a lot to say, or are they saying a lot just so they can look like they’re contributing? My gut is telling me he’s on the level. He may not always be right, but I think he’s one of the good guys.
Scuba_Ben - Right out of the box, I hate the “vote everyone” move. Don’t like it one bit – it only serves to obfuscate. (Crap – gotta cut this short. See below.) Bottom line, I’m suspicious.
ColdPhoenix - Seems ok to me (see below).
Crap crap crap…I’ve just been told it’s time for the “annual performance review”. Fuck me, I hate these things (maybe because of the amount of work time spent at places like the SDMB).
For the moment, I’m going to
Vote Scuba_Ben
Sorry for the cut-and-release here, but I need to make sure I still have a job in a couple of hours. Hopefully I’ll be around with more info/reasoning Tomorrow.
Well, I’m starting a 5 hour drive soon, so I’m going to Vote Normal Phase. The arguments he gave about Hal/Cold are a bit specious, and I don’t agree with the votes, but the unvotes, are, as said above, sketchy.
That puts us over the lynch threshold with 1.5 hours left. Let’s not do this again, sorry for my part in it.
Okay. Scuba Ben, you’re in little danger – it appears it’s either going to be me or no-one. Everyone has placed at least one substantive vote, and there is little room left for swings. Now you can decide whether you prefer me dead, or if you’d rather stick to your own word about unvoting those who expressed a preference for shifting Chronos around rather than arresting him. We’ve gotten just about as much information as it’s possible to get, and it’s just a matter of whether you really think I’m Scum or not. Up to you.
It’s unlikely to matter, but: unvote Inner Stickler unvote Hal Briston
as they’ve done what was needed.
It goes back to the whole thing about me potentially being both Doctor and Engineer the same cycle: If I’m both, then I have nobody to watch my back, and the Muties can make my examination just go away by killing me. If I (or any other officer, for that matter) am tossed in the Brig, then someone else becomes engineer, instead (Cookies, I think) and she can watch me. So brigging me is indeed one way to protect me.
Incidentally, this is still an issue. If (as seems likely) Normal Phase is about to be lynched, then some time in the next hour, either Normal Phase needs to either promote me or demote me, or Ichini Sanshigo needs to execute the arrest order on me (which would still leave us in a lynch situation, now that **Normal) has five votes other than me). Of these, I think the best option is for Normal Phase to demote me, since I’m not exactly eager to be arrested, and promoting me would leave us with the same problem if someone unvotes and we end up with a no-lynch.
