Mafia: Simpletown

It’s good that we have a lot of new blood in this game (I myself have played in a couple of games, but still consider myself a novice), but please be cautious about over-reliance on veteran players’ experience.

In the You-Solve-It game, there was a new player who got in a little over her head (didn’t understand the time commitment and also had strong emotional reactions to people accusing her of stuff), and several times she essentially said (paraphrase): “I don’t know who to vote for - someone tell me what to do.” This is extremely poor play for Town, as it invites Scum manipulation.

So despite being new to the game, I encourage everyone to not be intimidated: do your own analysis and don’t be led around by the nose by veterans.

(Yes, I recognize the irony of my post giving advice to new people sort of telling those same new people not to listen too much to advice. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Hehe, I was thinking the same thing BM.

That said, HI Everyone! I’m back from my mafia sabbatical, time for a nice relaxing game of mafia  .

Don’t like random. Sounds like an accusation with no accountability.

** Vote Queen of Town**

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I think I was sort of sending off the wrong vibes, I understand better now how the game should be played.

Is the possible (but not in reality) Queen of Town reference the character that takes up a day after she dies? I found a flash tutorial online that mentioned something like this.

Here it is: http://www.sitesled.com/members/mikeburnfire/mafiascum04.swf (for other newbs)

I’m SO glad I missed the signup for this one!

(And I’m not even going to read past the first page for now, just in case it’s still open.)

How rude!!

K, I’m out, have fun guys!

Along those same lines, please, everybody, don’t go “vote _________ for the same/similar reasons I said yesterday/before.”
It is so confusing, and it lets scum get away with idiotic/fallistic reasoning because nobody cares enough to look it up. I’d rather people quote themselves than do this.

And I don’t see anyone acting too suspicious since I last posted. I’m inclined to take Queen of Town’s comments at face value, and Blaster Master & Shadowfax are giving advice which seems reasonable. Not sure if they’re doing it for reasonable reasons though. I’ll have to look it over again.

My goodness, that all took a minute to catch up with. I didn’t expect so much posting to have already taken place!
Hmm…the last game was a no-lynch Day One, and I don’t really think it was helpful. We killed plenty of town anyway! If nobody emerges as a scum frontrunner in the next 48 hours or so, I suppose I’ll choose someone at random. But I don’t especially like random choices, because that’s not really much of a choice. So I’m going to hold off on voting for now. I wanna see how this plays out.

I still don’t see how random helps at all. Seems like just DBS (diversionary bull shit) for scum to justify any vote they feel inclined to make.

I mean, FCS, at least have a reason even if it’s based on name or post count.

Guess I ain’t gonna be worth a shit at this.

Upthread Ice Cream Man makes a statement along the lines of (blackberry coding curses) waiting to see where the votes accumulate before he votes sounds kind of scummy to me.

We can win this thing right now if we lynch everyone but me.

If you don’t agree, then die scum, die.

That does seem odd.I also thought asking for examples of mistakes is scummy.

Vote Ice Cream Man

Yes and no. We have a lot of newbies in this game, and I don’t think newbie tells are the same as for more veteran players.

In my first game, I was completely town but was mortified of “screwing up”. This got me lynched on, what, Day 3? But, that didn’t change the fact that I was Town.

Not so much today. Barring a big mistake by scum (like bandwagoning someone, but that’s one example), I don’t think it’s possible to grab someone based on voting on Day 1.

I’m also going to

vote Menocchio

Just for kicks mostly, but the question you asked seemed slightly weird for a veteran.

Now see, thats a rather aggressive stance, and it sounds like you’re trying to almost claim town, as in  guys hey, I’m townie here! This isn’t anything to vote on, but it’s definitely something to watch.

This sounds to me like aggresive townie. It just seems too…direct to be thought over and stripped of evidence (which a scum member would probably do).
I still don’t think we’ve heard from zuma or Sitnam. We need everyone to help flush out the scum in our midst, c’mon guys!

Now that I think about it I am inclined to move my vote to Ice Cream Man. But no way I am trying to code that change on this flippin’ Blackberry.

And to Koldanar and pedescribe if I am too aggressive so be it. This is the first game I have ever played so my “unique” style is what it is.

Oh and BTW, yes I am an “aggressive” townie trying to avenge NAF’s murder.

Oh, just on the weekend eh? You see, the Blackberry is my only form of internet. I tend to be reasonably coherent, so I expect the same of you! Seriously, these things are crackberries. I love the damn things. [Slightly off-topic nerd whisper]What kind do you have? For the love of og, tell me it’s not a Pearl![/nerd whisper]

fluiddruid, I keep forgetting you’re not the game mod this time around. I’m like, Why is she posting that? Oh yeah. :smack:

I think you’re confusing me with someone else. I was the 3rd person to vote (for WF Tomba, reasoning: random). I voted an hour and a half into the game.

In my defense I was responding to Koldanar when he said:

So, random is just more honest? Ok, I’ll take it.
Random roll (honest!):
fluiddruid

That’s
Vote fluiddruid

Bufftabby:

I’ve got the latest and greatest (according to IM) AT+T version that even has a camera (what use that would be I have no clue). How do you code votes on or reference quotes on these stinking things?

You just gotta love sitting around with the family eating dinner out while getting thumbal tunnel syndrome replying to the retards at work.

Just kidding, couldn’t live without it although it does remind me of having a new born that requires constant attention.
