Are we going with joke votes or random votes to start?
Query to experienced Mafiosos: how many werewolves are there likely to be?
I am off to my job at the mill, so I will not be able to post for several hours. Sigh. Interesting thoughts, Chronos. I had been thinking about how to use the tie breaker to advantage…but this is my first game so I relish a discussion from those more experienced. Can the wolves use the tie rule to their advantage as well? How? The scum can discuss it among themselves to their heart’s content in their night lair to reach a consensus on how to counter town tiebreaker plans. But townies cannot do the same because we don’t know whom to trust and townie strategy is open for all to see? Maybe our masons could develop some secret code hidden in their postings. Is such a thing allowed? This wouldn’t help the rest of the townies much. I don’t suppose. Lot of wolves with options for breaking a tie if no masons are around to vote. Damn this is fun!
One other question: If the wolves try to kill “Bill,” one night, but our guardian has protected “Bill,” do the wolves get to kill someone else instead or is no one killed that night?
I will ponder the tiebreaker option today at work while grinding corn.

Pm received. I’m about to get in the car for an eight hour rude, so I won’t be posting until tonight or tomorrow.
Looking at post 50, I think there are 5. The Alpha wolf plus werewolves 1,2,3,4.
No one is killed.

The Wolves can talk to their heart’s content in their lair, and they do have the advantage that they know they can trust each other, but remember that they can’t talk during the Day, which would make complicated plans for vote-interference difficult. They, the Masons, or anyone else can attempt to create codes, so long as all of the relevant communication is posted openly. This will be difficult for the Masons in this game, as they do not have their own discussion board like the Scum do (masons sometimes do, in some games), but that’s not that big a deal, since the Masons aren’t usually much interested in keeping secrets anyway (their only secret is the identity of the other Masons, which should be kept hidden for a while at least to prevent them from being priority Scum targets, but everything else they know or figure out they probably want the whole Town to know anyway.
Wolves creating secret codes does happen occasionally, since they do have a major secret that they absolutely need to keep hidden, but they have the added danger that if anyone figures out that there’s a code hidden in a message, they’re going to ask why.
One other sort of secret message that comes up occasionally is called “breadcrumbing”, and is most often used by the Detective (called the Seer in this game): The Detective usually wants to stay hidden for the first few cycles, because they’re a very powerful asset to the Town, and priority number 1 for the Scum to kill if they can. But staying hidden also means that they can’t communicate the results of their investigations, and if the Detective dies before communicating that, their results are useless. So sometimes a Detective will attempt to hide their investigation results in their posts, in such a way that they won’t make it immediately obvious that they’re the Detective, but that the Town will be able to figure out the messages if they die prematurely. Personally, I’m not a big fan of this, since it’s a very fine line between the Town being able to figure it out after the fact, and the Scum being able to figure it out before, but some folks try it anyway.
As a general rule, it’s usually best for Town to post everything they figure out openly and honestly. The exception is if you have privileged information that would benefit the Scum (like the fact that you’re a power role): That can be sat on for a while (though the time will come when you should reveal it anyway). But if it’s just something that you’ve figured out from what people have said, then the Scum has probably figured it out too (remember, they’ve got more brains working on the problem, and can collaborate more smoothly than the Town), so withholding it usually has no benefit.
Confirming PM.
That’s just the kind of thing a werewolf would say. Lynch him!!
Kidding, of course. This is my first game and I’m happy to soak up all the tips I can.

I got my PM, and I am ready to start the irresponsible finger pointing.
In my real life, I’m a computer forensic investigator. So, in the (I’m sure very likely) event that the Scum leave some computers around for the Townies to find, I’m your man!
Of course, take any tips you get with a grain of salt. I (or anyone else giving advice) may sound like a Townie just trying to be helpful to the poor newbs, but you don’t know that. And even if the advice-givers are Town, there are some legitimate differences of opinion about these things.
Of course. I’m soaking up the tips, but not necessarily following them.
I like spreadsheets, so I’m keeping notes on all you shady characters. So far I’ve alphabetized you. So there:

I’d be pretty cautious of the tie break mechanism and forcing a tie to try and get info out of it. In the top 4 places we have 3 spots and the wolves only one. Forcing a tie to gather info stands a higher chance of exposing the masons , and if the masons get exposed that gives a smaller pool to hunt in for our seer and protector. The alpha wolf can stay out of the lynch tie pool pretty easily.
And it seams to be the weekend for road trips , we are on day 3 of our move from park city to Houston , on got 3 left and 2 right hand turns to make to get to our new house, trouble is there is 460 miles of I10 between us and there.
