storyteller0910 has created a new Mafia game in this thread.
This here is the companion thread for unspoilered discussion of the action. Needless to say (but I will say it anyway), this thread is for non-participants in the actual game, as well as participants after they are well and truly dead. For those dead folks, please do not post any spoilers here!
Looks like the game will start pretty soon. It’s been a while since the last Dope mafia game, so I am hoping there will be lots of energy and enthusiasm. And killing.
Oh man, that tiebreaking mechanism. I assume it’s a weight that’s only applied at the EOD so the interim votecounts won’t display anything funky? A savvy player could use ties to start deducing roles. I’m almost jealous I’m not playing in this game now.
I’m certain that the tiebreak will only kick in if a tie happens at the end of day. storyteller wouldn’t put in an obvious tool to test for werewolves by day.
Furthermore, I expect that the tiee will simply die without regard to the underlying tiebreak mechanism. I don’t expect ties to happen. However, I do think a skittish First Mason or Alpha Wolf might behave atypically in fear of a tie – that is, change vote to avoid a tie.
Then again, I’m usually wrong in predicting how others will react to game rules. For all I know the Alpha Wolf will see it as an opportunity to sway votes to his team’s favor.
I’m interested in seeing how the game will play out with so many new players. Games have evolved to the point where many players could tell who was scum based on changes in gameplay. With new players, that’s not an option.
I’ve got a shiny nickel, though, that says a major chunk of day one is going to be arguing over what will and won’t be considered scummy behavior in the event of a close vote count.
Sario, you should hie thyself from this thread (i.e., don’t read it) since you are playing the actual game. We’ll be speculating all kinds of nonsense in here and dead players will eventually be posting. So, please ignore this thread until you are dead
Heh. I was wondering if that was going to happen. It takes a while to get used to the idea of a Forbidden Thread. Maybe we can get a thread title change to emphasize it’s forbidden-ness? There really isn’t any indication in the thread title that alive players should stay out.
I’ve reported the OP and asked that FORBIDDEN TO LIVE PLAYERS be added to the thread title and the OP post body. I’m not sure what the character limit on titles is, though.
Point of fact, I have a bag of Popcorn Indiana[sup]TM[/sup] Movie Theater popcorn right here! Might need to get some garlic flavored next time to ward off the Wolves (or is that vampires?)
The game is joined. I’ll mostly follow along quietly over here, so as not to spoil the enjoyment of those attempting to watch unspoiled, but wanted to note that if anyone does want spoilers - or even just a spoiled answer to a specific question - please feel free to PM me.
I hadn’t given the tiebreak mechanism all that much thought, but Chronos clearly has (not surprising).
It looks like the simple mechanism is putting in reasons FOR engineering a tie, rather than discouraging one. I’m not sure that is wise. But I guess we’ll find out.
Chronos’s notes on ties are pretty darn good. I get a town vibe from that in the sense that if he were a wolf, ignoring the possibilities would be way more prudent. As Town, he HAS to post his ideas right away in case he dies. Chronos is absolutely right. If the first mason is ever exposed (by death or by claim), the tie break mechanism can be used to eliminate the Alpha Wolf’s effectiveness.
Of course, coordinating a tie will likely not work since agreement on coordination never works.
Huh, I typed wolf instead of scum. I don’t usually do that.
In all seriousness, I agree with you. I don’t think it will do a bit of good, but it looks like chronos may have found a but of a game break. I see zero chance that it will get exploited unless the players have started being more rational in their game play than the last time I watched a game.
Yes, **Chronos **sounds exactly like normal Chronos, so I would slightly lean Town on him at the moment. That said, as a player I agree with **JSexton **that trying to manipulate the game like that is not really fun. I felt the same way about Chronos’ algorithms. Just play the game.
The tie-break mechanism has been a good discussion kick-off, though, and I think it will come into play more by accident than anything else, since sach is 100% right about trying to coordinate that shit.
Also, nice to see some new players blundering around
