Magellan01 is a fucking moron.

There’s not one smart thing he said in the thread linked in the OP.

Some crackpot claims Obama endorsed some Kenyan poitician because they were apparently in the same country as each other and all of a sudden **Magellan01 **turns into Hercule Poirot… hmm, further study is needed to come to the proper conclusions … dubious associations … hmmm… there’s a pattern …

The fact is, that “article” is such an obvious, over the top, smear-job on Obama and he’s treating it like a Supreme Court transcript. He can whip out his hard-on for the Washington Times and wave it in our faces as much as he wants, but it doesn’t make his arguments any less fucking retarded.

I would like to nominate LonesomePolecat:

Wow. Yeah, that was pretty fucking stupid.

None of them can touch Carol Stream, however.

As for the OP, the basic source for magellan01’s rantings is one Jerome Corsi, the one Michael freaking Medved said was too fringe!

This is pretty ridiculous. The article choie linked to says that some guy working with McCain’s campaign lobbied to ease sanctions on Iraq in the mid 90s, and a couple of people who worked with him were arrested. Try to keep that in perspective here. He’s not a Saddam Hussein lobbyist any more than I’m a Fidel Castro lobbyist for arguing against the embargo. “Hand waving away” is exactly what that article deserves, as it has exactly as much legitimacy as Obama’s imagined connection to Ayers.

Not that I’m saying magellan01 isn’t stupid. He certainly is.

prr just wants to see his/her own name show up on the list. Feed the ego and such.

He worked directly with them for Saddam and for themselves to get a cut of Iraqi oil. They were clearly working as Saddam lobbyists.

He’s also a lying bastard.

(my bolding)

Not for nothing, but I think that’s kind of the point.
Edit: **tagos **hadn’t replied when I posted, so maybe that wasn’t his/her point, but it’s my point. I’m co-opting it.

More Info

Besides. Iraq was an enemy and designated a terrorist sponsor and as such he had no business lobbying for them at all.

Yea, I’d forgotten about him, and suddenly there he is again. Prior to his reappearance, Carol Stream was getting my vote for looniest of the fringe. The rest of them merely parrot the parties talking points to varying degrees of success (sometimes, they even seem to screw that up)

It was part of my point but the other part is that unlike the fax outrage over the Kenya thing, employing a lobbyist working for an enemy is a real issue.

I don’t usually point out spelling/typo type things, but do you mean “faux” vs. “fax” here? (as in french for false/fake)

I did. Battery running out in keyboard. Been losing letters all day.

I think you may be right. It’s just Lekatt seems to post sporadically so I don’t figure him as a regular.

But yeah, Lekatt is a fucking loon. Magellan is pretty fucking stupid though.
Hmm, on further consideration, perhaps Magellan isn’t a case of can’t think so much as won’t think. Maybe he’s just a coward that screws up his face when he sees info that suggests he’s wrong and his eyes glaze over and he starts thinking of something else.

Right, I think I retract my title, Magellan isn’t a fucking moron, he’s a cowardly shit willing to outright lie to preserve the notion that his unexamined opinions are inviolate and unchallengeable.

After reading Tagos’ response to my post, do you still hold that position? He posted in while you were typing, I think.

It’s Tagos’ argument that a guy who was lobbying to relieve sanctions on Iraq so he could trade oil with them was an agent of Saddam’s government. Although our first response to this is to try inventing a possible reasonable excuse for the post, that’s just not the case. He’s not trying to point out how ridiculous the claims about Obama’s associations are with amusing anecdotal comparisons. He honestly believes this horse shit.

I think it’s a valid point to broach considering the tactics of “association problems” from the right. They started with this shit, so if they get a little back at them then tough noogies.

My point about hand-waving is this: if this story about McCain’s guy being a dubious association is not worthy of any serious note, then how the fuck can any of the bullshit arguments about Ayers or the Kenyan dude be more valid … or valid at all, I suppose I should say?

I believe it because it is true. He was an active lobbyist for Saddam. He was actively working for and with an enemy. His compatriots were convicted.

The UN investigation found he knew full well what the score was. Chloe has a fine follow-up post in the thread.

Waitaminnit, what about Clothahump and Carol Stream?

Apologies, I had forgotten our sexually-neglected housewife. Just such a black hole of stupid, nothing can escape.

I liked him so much better when he was just a freaking film critic…
