Maggie Roche, RIP

Age: 65. Cause of Death: cancer. The Roches could sing the pants off me. The one time I actually watched Tiny Toon Adventures, featured a segment with the sisters driving around in a tiny van because they were…roaches.

Man, could they sing.

Another voice stilled.

Good-bye, Ms Roche.

No! What sad news. I grew up listening to the Roches - my dad discovered their music somewhere along the way - and loved their voices and their humor.

If you don’t have it, check out We Three Kings, their holiday CD. It’s wonderful.

Very sad news. I got into them at the time of the first trio album (to this day I’ve never heard the earlier album Maggie and Terre did without Suzzy) through the Robert Fripp connection. And I’ll second Nayna’s endorsement of the delightful We Three Kings CD.

I’ve been a fan since 1980 when I heard The Roches, their first album. I was delighted to see their (animated) appearance on Tiny Toons, and We Three Kings is our family’s favorite Christmas album.

Always liked them and became a big fan when I saw them in concert a few years ago. Very sad news.

How sad. :frowning:

Loved that first album.

She has the main spot on The Sunday New York Times obituary page.

I discovered them when they teamed up with Philip Glass.

I discovered them when Linda Ronstadt covered “The Married Men”. This is sad news; their records/CDs spent on a lot of time live at my house.

I’ve heard them live several times and their harmonies were very impressive. I particularly remember hearing this lovely paean to slacking which, based on the date of the album, might have been a good twenty years ago now.

Didn’t you ever feel like the largest Elizabeth in the world?

Sad, I loved the Roches for years.

I just had an :eek: moment:

I saw them at Shriver Hall, Johns Hopkins University–let’s see, that was while I was seeing this one girl, before the one I married, which would b–HOLY SHIT! 30 years ago! Just the three, no side-men; if it wasn’t acoustic guitar, it was sequenced into this BIG keyboard that they also played live. They were touring for the “Speak” album. They.Brought.The.House.Down! Wonderful show!

I saw them open for Talking Heads once. I’m sorry to say they were booed off the stage. It happens in rock and roll. Concerts are not subtle events. RIP.
