I looked for this song for a long, long time after hearing it on The Doctor Demento Show on KMET back in the '80s. A couple of years ago I managed to find it by a different artist. The linked version is the one I first heard. The one on my iTunes is by Ray Ellington. It put me off at first, since it was not the version I expected. But it’s grown on me. (‘Saucy monkey!’) And the ending is different. In the linked version, the ending comes to more of a ‘big finish’. But Ellington’s version makes more sense because it’s a pun. The linked version: ‘She took his money and what is more, she made the rich maharajah the poor Maharajah of Magador!’ Ellington’s version says ‘She took his money and what is more, she took the Maharajah of Magador!’
